I'm sure there will be dozens of reviews about how this game is a hidden gem, masterpiece etc.
But it isn't. The level design is monotonous and repetitive. The graphics are awful and the gameplay is tedious. Overrated just because it's LucasArts.
An FPS from the late 90s that's way better in every way is the Wheel of Time.
If it had been made by LucasArts it would have gotten glowing reviews.
This is a Pretty great game, the video parts were done mainly good (the girl jumping off the swing made me laugh a lot but im unsure if it was meant to look that way). The game its-self plays much like the original Doom game (but this game has the option of removing in-game blood from the options menu) & the sky view is a really nice touch (you know, the clouds scrolling), the style is great, the voice acting is quite good and funny at times, character animation is done to a good standard (from what i can see). The story is great (one we have seen quite a lot but it still works).
The reason i gave this a lower score than the full 5 stars.. is that the A.I in the game is buggy (i know the games old but i have to be honest), the 'bad' guys seem to bug-out a bit and can even shoot out there backs somehow + they have no path-finding so bump in-to things a lot or get stuck on walls or behind doors (which sometimes they can shoot through. enemies can shoot fast but so can you, there's no real reload-time as such as it very fast, there's two fire modes but i found the second one not really needed as i can fire like Rambo till everything is dead anyway. The game feels a little 'Unfinished' at times. the level design is not bad as such but there's not much to interact with (e.g. animals do nothing, barrels or bottles etc also do nothing even when shot they just may make a noise), there's very few civilians other than the odd few in a place (but a lot of these old games were kinda like this), the dark parts are at times over-dark to the point you can't see anything and wonder if going forward is still working, guns seem to not always have any effect from afar), game modes are kinda like: very easy (run n gun with a lot of ammo around), not quite easy (you can get 'bumped-off' quite fast) or you can get bumped off with one shot at times hard mode.
Other than that, if you like Doom or similar games then you may also like this game!
Well, I can understand that this game might have been liked back when it came out.
Unfortunately, it didn't age very well. And this edition is not very friendly.
On its own the game stretches the display ugly, the menus have annoyingly long switch times and configuring controls... well, that's a nice one - a separate dialog appears on a desktop completely inconsistent with the game itself. And that's even before the game started.
The graphics are maybe good enough for its time (although you have to remember that in 1997 we already had quake) but flatness of the sprites maybe was good enough in 1993, but not in 1997. Especially the horses look ridiculous.
Hell, 1997 was the year Jedi Knight came out and it was way way more advanced.
The gameplay itself also wasn't that thrilling so I passed the first level and decided to call it quits. It's not worth my time. Maybe if it was a fond memory from my childhood I'd like it better but back then I simply played other things. So I'm not going back to this one again.
