Order of Battle: World War II

A breath of fresh air for all strategy fans. It is a game that takes wargaming to a new level by upgrading every single game element and rebooting the genre for a new generation of players. Detailed terrain, rich animations and a slick interface, all within a traditional setting and with the elements that are familiar to experienced players - Order of Battle: World War II follows in the footsteps of all time classics, such as Panzer General.

With a selection of over 700 unique looking and behaving units, players can build and manage their army, fleet and air force throughout the campaigns set in the various theatres of operations during WW2. A unique system of specializations allows players to customize their forces with special units, bonuses and abilities that reflect the difference in strategies and mentality of the various factions.

A set of unique Commanders – split between Generals, Pilots and Captains – is gradually unlocked in the campaigns. These can be attached to specific units to provide unique bonuses to anything in their command range. While good use of unit types and tactics remains the player's priority, clever use of Commanders can tip the balance in an offensive operation or buy just enough time in defense to turn the tide to your favor.

In Order of Battle: World War II, a unique supply system also plays a key factor that directly affects the combat efficiency of the units. Landing on an enemy island without any support ships will prevent the invasion forces from building a solid beachhead, and breaking the supply lines of your opponent, isolating his units and making encirclement maneuvers are the strategies required to achieve an ultimate victory.

  • Classic turn based, hex based gameplay with an intuitive UI and great depth.
  • Play in dynamic campaigns with unit carryover and multiple "what-if" scenarios.
  • A rich 3D world with detailed animations and effects. Turn-based wargaming has never looked this good!
  • 20 different Specializations give a unique feel to each faction including Banzai Charge, Bushido Code and even the Manhattan Project.
  • Over 700 different unit types, including infantry, tanks, ships and aircraft, each with unique visuals and animations
  • Attach unique commanders to your units to give them additional offensive and defensive bonuses
  • A deep but intuitive supply system allowing breakthroughs & encirclements.
  • 4 player multiplayer over PBEM++ and hotseat, supporting last-man-standing, teamplay and cooperative against AI scenarios.
  • An extensive, user-friendly in-game scenario editor with a what-you-see-is-what-you-get design.

Order of Battle U.S. Pacific

December 7, 1941 – the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor left America shocked and the US Navy stunned. Glorious battleships such as USS Arizona were sunk or put out of action for. This infamous raid gave Japan a serious advantage right from the start, but they have sorely underestimated the American determination to overcome this setback and fight back the aggression. Four long years of war now lay ahead to determine the outcome of this epic struggle...

As the commanding officer of the US Pacific forces, the player is tasked to put a halt to the Japanese aggression and restore American supremacy in this part of the globe. From the early blow at Pearl Harbor to the final battles in the Japanese archipelago, recruiting new units, giving the right orders and organizing an effective supply chain are essential on the path to ultimate victory. New technologies and equipment will gradually become available, allowing players to modernize their army, fleet and airforce throughout the campaign.

In Order of Battle: U.S. Pacific you take control over the American army and fleet in some of the most iconic land and naval battles of the Pacific Theatre of WW2.

Strategic Command & Pazer Corps unite

Do not listen to people blabbing about this game being over 200 dollars. If you actually buy all of the content, you have just purchased about 13 different games with well over a thousand hours at least. .... pick the theater of war that interests you most, buy that DLC. You will have a blast. And if months from now you want to try a diffent one, go for it, it will be worth the money. Yes! There is over 200 dollars worth of DLC, but this could have been OOB 1: Pacific, OOB 2: War in the East, OOB 3: Africa Corp, OOB 4... etc. Each one has a huge amount of content. The base game here starts with the war in the Pacific which is a great experience. If that doesn't interest you, you can find the base game for free elsewhere and choose a DLC of your choice to get things going. As far as gameplay goes - this is a wonderful experience here. The Panzer series is epic, but there is no doubt that it is a puzzle game, not a true strategy game. Strategic Command is epic... but there is no doubt that the only campaigns available are absolutely massive! Order of Battle truly threads that needle. You get some supply chains and fleshed out tactics, but it still keeps things from the hardcore (Gary Grigsby anyone?). If you love SC but want smaller maps, or a slower, more open ended pace than Panzer Corps - this is the game. I will say, planes feel quite unrealistic at times, they can just exist over entire fleets without much trouble, apparently circling around endlessly having their way. It can be dealt with, but it just does'nt feel realistic. The Ai... is a bit questionable at times, will definitely let you off the hook. But all in all this is a great experience here - cheers!

Bad UI, unfun campaign, tiresome loop

uQfIA$FEZZ*jXbfdSOHvwT^G3tbVpq I so wanted to love this game. It could have been good, if only they had some half decent game design. GOOD + Simple, effective graphics. I love hexagons, I love the different terrain types and I love the (purely cosmetic) terrain features like tank traps or huts and villages. + Units gain experience and follow you into future missions. You can even assign captains to them. + Buy global upgrades for your units between missions. BAD - Units gaining experience does not feel like it does anything. And since you're not given money in the Pacific campaign, you can't keep those units alive either. - Global upgrades seem pretty unimpressive. - Bad game design. There are many weird little systems stopping your units (in the worst cases) from being able to attack, move or deal damage. Without googling or studying the manual, you got no idea why. They just don't make sense when looking at the game / map. If the first answer in every forum thread is "read the manual", your systems don't make sense! - Bad UI. The interface for purchasing units, deploying units, using their special abilities and (worst of all) their actual combat stats is just terrible. Next time do what World of Tanks or Blizzard does and get a decent designer, please. - Bad controls. For example: selecting and moving units is the same button! Imagine how many times I moved a unit onto an airplane instead of selecting it because SURPRISE! the button does something else now! And seeing how every move is important and there's no undo, a mistake like this can wreck your game. (Saving and loading takes 4-5 clicks in this game, too, of course.) - Bad campaign. The "free", included tutorial campaign about Pearl Harbor is a terrible choice to start things off. Why? Because losing sucks. I don't pay 20 bucks to lose. Why is there no land conquest campaign included? - Boooring. The AI turns tend to take MINUTES so you sit there waiting. Move 5 units, wait. Move more units, wait.

Patch 9.1.4 Has Screwed-Up the Graphics

Before the 9.1.4 patch this game was a 4 or 5 star title for fans of the Panzer General style games. Now after using the new 9.1.4 installer on my new laptop, the graphics are messed up. When you hover over a campaign, instead of seeing the title in the little pop-up, you see what looks like smudged writing. When you hit launch, the pop-up that gives you the title and initial briefing also has the smudged writing appearance. At the bottom of the window it should read "Continue", but again the fonts looked like someone wrote it on paper then poured water over the paper. I own the base game with the Pacific campaign as well as Allies Defiant, I noticed this trouble after I purchased Allies Resurgent and tried to install on the new computer. I have since asked for a refund for Allies Resurgent, and I see the credit is in my wallet. I realize some people will say "Are all your drivers up to date?" The answer is "Yes". As a test, I went to the Slitherine web site and obtained a free copy of the game which is just the Boot Camp mini campaign. I installed the Slitherine version and used the 9.1.4 patch found on Slitherine's site. Low and behold everything works and looks fine. There is something obviously wrong with the install/patch on Gog's site. I am not sure if the Gog trouble exists if you use Galaxy. I prefer off-line installers so I do not use Galaxy. Be well. Thanks for reading.
