15+ years of coding quality
OpenTTD is an old project. This comes with good and bad. This project is incredibly code mature. I would doubt it's ability to crash. Except when dealing with the AI; whose scripting has failed to keep up with newer code. On the flipside, the developers can be incredibly obstinate about adding new features or obsoleting old features. There are a lot of options. And settings. Confusedly, they've seperated Settings and Options into two separate realms presumably due to one being patches rather than options. In fact, there are (AotW) FOUR settings buttons, and yet lacks for customization such as typeface selection. In the context of the original game, TTD has the strange legacy of being a game that obsoleted and outstripped the sequel, Locomotion. This is probably what gave Chris Sawyer his complex with game modding. There is an absolute plethora of mods via the inbuilt content download system. Rather confusingly (AotW) there's no way to sort the content by date; what I would cite as the biggest flaw of the download system second to the lack of any preview. But at the end of the day, this is all open source, so maybe you could be the one to fix the problems or completely change the game so none of this review makes sense anymore. ;)
