A fantastic title with huge flaws...

This game blew my mind when it came out. The feeling of freedom was huge : the city felt aliev - well, not so much in today's standarts, but I had a blast exploring it. A ton of hidden stuff to find. The story was great - not so much the whole conspiracy, IA and stuff, but the execution, the way it unveiled. It had nice puzzles, sometimes difficult but always rewarding. Sadly, I forgave a lot to the gameplay back then, that would be hard to overlook now. There are too many "street fighter" sequences, and they are weak and annoying. The FPS parts aren't great either. You can walk around aimlessly for ages in that big city, hoping to find something. The directions in the quest aren't always clear, you get lost a lot reaming endlessly. Al in one, I don't think I would enjoy the game so much without the nostaliga factor - not that the game isn't good, but the bad parts are really bad and more obvious now. The game is unique, and I would really like everybody to love it as much as I did, but I know it's not possible. But if you're aware that it won't be perfect and you just get ready for an experience, you can enjoy it greatly.

A good buy for historical purposes.

This is a really atmospheric game. 20 years ago I think I would have liked just walking around the game's city. The premise is really unique, too. You see, the game begins...now. No, seriously, it begins with you reading this. *You* are the player. This message is an attempt to get your attention so you can trade souls with someone in the Omikron universe and make a difference. Just a really unique premise to start with here. Nothing has aged well, though; you use the arrow keys to move around, it looks like a really good Quake I mod overall, the audio sounds like an old tape recorder, and although I haven't come close to finishing the game, I've read that the rest of the game isn't great. I don't regret buying this on sale.

Wow to have played this in 99

This game is even impressive now so many open world games eps PC ones owe a lot to Omikron. The method of storytelling is dynamic and fluid even visceral which can be weird on senses. As an adventure game this would be a 5 out of 5, technically they do lie about Realtime and fully 3d etc. But a little tech exaggeration is normal in video games and people not looking might not see it. So for the bad news, this is not just an adventure game, it "tries" to be a shooter weak FPS mode and a brawler awkward side view fighting game. Both these modes are poorly done buggy and bad controls, they may be remappable but won't help much. The ACTION elements kinda ruin this game for me and they add very little a simple rail shooter for FPS and a quick reaction for fighting would be loads better. I hope this will get a remake but it would be pretty expensive and hard to retool all the bad out. So glad I played this such a cool time late 90s innovation meets entertainment. However the Slider"Taxi" goes to the wrong address and misses the show. Further critique graphically this will hurt your eyes and while HD res are available it aint hd its 16bit and no detail flats over polys.

A flawed jewel.

Story, oh my it's quite an interesting journey. Your soul is part of the game! Music, pretty good. Oh and David Bowie. Gameplay, a mix of combat/shooting with magic tossed in as well. This is the main flaw as the game's age was not ready for this type of mix. (Actually a sequel should nail it...) Verdict, if you're looking for something different and have the patience to learn how the game operates it can be a rewarding ride. Also, David Bowie. The main flaw is in how the different portions of the game control. Fighting areas can get particularly annoying especially if the player needs to resort to some cheap tactics to get by (such as spamming a jump attack). Mainly the body you inhabit plays a difference here, don't often have the best for the task at hand and training them takes time plus you can permanently lose the body. Fps portions can get a little weird by today's standards.. Plus there are David Bowie concerts. So why would you not want it buy this game?

Absolutely excellent

the best version around, but the controls are indicative of a bygone age they're still perfectly serviceable even without rebinding set your view distance to maximum and your resolution to 1080p and you're good to go! telling you anything is technically a spoiler, best to just let the game happen to you, but it's got a stellar soundtrack and a cameo by david bowie himself, and this game is so unlike your expectations can prepare you for. it's a hidden gem, an instant classic, and the fact that you can just buy it in 2021 and it just runs boggles the mind.
