Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD

I really love this game! I played it first back on my original Xbox and it was love on first sight. But the thing is, it´s still a great game. The story is quit good, especially for a shooter, though it´s nothing like the Witcher or things like that. This is a kind of mid 2000 games that have a story, so that you stay entertained enough to finish the game, not a interactive movie. It´s core is the gameplay and that´s really awsome! It´s combo of a 3D-jump and run and a first person shooter. And that´s brilliant, I love maneuvering in thrid person, it´s gameplay wise close to games like Spyro a hero´s tail. And the first person shooter part is cool to, it´s a lot of fun and reminds me of a newer game called Dishonored. And you can also play stealth or play offensive. I like both styles.

I can't believe this game seems to be held in high regard. I love games from this era but this was disappointing in pretty much every way. The setting is extremely bland as are the characters, music is forgettable, and what humor there was didn't do much for me. I did like the artstyle however and the game does have some creative ideas. The gameplay just wasn't fun for me - trying to capture enemies alive took all the fun out of the combat and it seems like most encounters (especially bosses) are not even designed for it. 3rd person mode is basically only good for traveling from location to location. The shooting feels extremely unsatisfactory because enemies are ridiculously good at dodging your shots (especially if you shoot a slower moving one like a Thudslug) and when you do connect it takes a lot of hits to kill them - the bees might as well be tiny pebbles for the amount of damage they do. Stealth is presented early on as something you'll have many opportunities to do but that is not at all the case. Enemies are comically accurate and it doesn't seem to matter how much you try to dodge. I gave up at Lefty Lugnutz because I just couldn't take anymore.

Runs on far too long and turns into a different game halfway through where you just have to kill. its gets boring and really wanted it to end

Played this on the xbox way back. Updated graphics look good. Sound is solid. Story leaves some to learn as you play through instead of giving the whole picture upfront. Gameplay is a mix of first and third person view which you can switch between at will. Your crossbow can only be used in first person. Third person is mostly used for runing around, talking and bagging bounties. I only have two issues with this game. First is the controls. Keyboard works fine. The game launcher does not auto configure a game controler and has to be configure manually. This is a minor issue for older games in my book and I did not have any issues getting the launcher to see or configure my xbox one controler. It even creates a custom option for the controler so I can go back to default if I need to. Second is an issue with nvidia drivers. Threaded optimazation caused the game to crash when loading a saved game. Took a minute to find this fix. Go into the Nvidia control panel and select a specific game. If the game is not listed, use the browse button to add stranger.exe from the game folder. Set threaded optimazation to off and start the game. Works great after this adjustment. A minor note. Some players have posted about turning off the graphic settings in the game and using the game specific GPU settings instead. Some get better visuals and performance. I'm happy with the way it looks with out this and I don't think I will be bothering with settings too much. Hope this helps, Stranger.

Ive never played an Oddworld game before but I loved this one. I choose normal difficulty and it was very hard for me still I wanted to continued till the end. The missions a pretty repetitive and controls are not evident sometimes but when you watch all the beautiful world of Oddworld, you forget all about those negatives aspects. The Stranger Wrath was for me an extraordinary experience!
