Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty

1st of all, this game released in July 2014 for PS4... so the DLC wasn't made on release. It was made almost a year ago and is now available as the full game on PC, Mac, and Linux along with the DLC that's been made since. 2nd, my experience on the PS4 version of the game was great! Always loved the oddworld games and Abe's Odyssey was a fav of mine, so a return to that after 10+ years was a breath of fresh air to one of my favorite genres that rarely sees quality titles. As long as the port is good, ( I can't tell, don't plan on buying it due to already having it on PS4 ) it's a very fun 2d platformer that anyone can enjoy, but specifically people who played and loved the old oddworld games.

The Linux version of this game has some serious stability issues. The game seems to crash always when there's a wireless controller connected to the system. You'll have to disconnect them before starting the game. If you're missing some libraries (not all requirements are mentioned here at the system requirements) you'll just see a gray screen. After installing everything I still wasn't able to get the game running for more than a few seconds. Since the requirements for Linux only state AMD graphics cards as requirement, the game perhaps only runs fine on those. I liked the original game a lot, but I cannot say anything about this remake since I wasn't able to play it.

The gameplay itself is fun, and it looks nice, though all of my gameplay sessions have ended with everything in the game losing its correct texture and turning a strange pearly rainbow of colors and then not responding, albeit I do usually get 30 minutes to an hour of playtime before that happens. Anyway, after having some issues with battery life for a full week, I looked at the processes running on my computer, and this game had left a zombie process open that is not listed in the Force Quit Menu or displayed with an icon in the Dock. It was eating up half of my CPU and a ton of memory and ostensibly doing nothing. I had to SIGKILL it just to get it to stop. They have some serious issues to address in the Mac port.

With todays CPU/GPU/GameEngines being sooo far ahead of yesterdays! you would expect this game to have been sooo much more!! but alas more and more games are being made/remade by talentless/lazy people/studio's who just copy and paste blindly. So basically this game and many other remakes are somewhat good games with fun elements sprinkled in but it/they could and should have been sooo much more.

Raw, buggy product, doesn't worth it's price. I'm working with XBox 360 controller and I can't do 'chanting'. Controls specified are just ignored. Settings page tells me it's LT+RT, but the game reacts on RT only making "Follow me" instead of 'chanting'. Thus I can't interact with birds and continue. There's a lot of such complaints across the Internet. 1 star as game's main functions do not work on the officially supported platform (Linux Mint 17).
