Built from scratch from the ground up, enjoy breathtaking visuals, enhanced audio and improved, deeper gameplay as New 'n' Tasty reignites the original Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee using the latest next-generation technology.

Once a happy floor waxer in Oddworld's biggest meat processing plant, Abe stumbles across his boss's secret plan to turn the factory's slave labor force into the latest in the RuptureFarms Tasty Treats line of novelty meat snacks. Abe now has to save his own skin from the grinders, but simply escaping the flesh farm is only the start of his Oddysee - for many dangers await Abe on his journey to discover his destiny.
  • A timeless classic rebuilt from the ground up for a new generation to enjoy.
  • Old school controls will be familiar to purists but all new analogue controls open up new avenues for sneaky exploration and imaginative speed-running.
  • New areas and secrets to discover amid a stunning range of locations from the grimy murk of RuptureFarms, through the native habitats of Monsaic Lines and the vast temples of Scrabania and Paramonia.

Very nice remake

I played Abe's Oddysee a few times when I was a child, decades ago, and been playing it from time to time. It's one of those special videogames that contain unique feeling and atmosphere and are difficult to forget, with amazing attention to detail and craftsmanship. This new version does a better-than-average job and manages to keep most of the spirit and essence of the cinematic and dark original. Some is lost, though, or transformed, as it's impossible to do a remake with new technologies (from 2D to 3D) without losing something. But I believe fans of the original will be satisfied with this version, unless they are too purist, as it manages to keep most of the original soul. The only thing I didn't like that much was the song for the credits. I think it breaks apart the tone, feeling and personality of the videogame. A “standard” song shouldn't be used, but an original, ambiental/folk (excuse me, I don't know the exact genre) music like the original instead. Nonetheless, this remake is a respectful, lovely and carefully-made remake of a unique classic, and I recommend it. I didn't experience any bug on 2.1.0.3, even repeatedly using the quicksave. Subtitles were a bit off-sync in some particular moments, but nothing major.

Not so new anymore, but oh-so-tasty!

I played the original Abe's Oddysee way back when. It's a timeless classic, and New 'n' Tasty pretty much improves on it across the board. If you haven't played the original, you're in for a treat! It's a pretty unique game; I have a hard time thinking of any game (outside the Oddworld series) that comes close to it. I'd describe it as a cinematic sometimes-stealth,sometimes-action puzzle platformer, with a personality that's a blend between goofy and grim. First things first, many of the older reviews here mention the game being buggy. I guess most of them have been ironed, as the game has been rock solid for me throughout. (Except for this one section: https://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/topic/227349-anyone-else-stuck-in-scrabania-on-hard-possible-bug/ ) As for how New 'n' Tasty stacks up to the original: - The obvious improvement is the graphics. What I actually find more impressive is that the original game was already developed as a cohesive 3D world back in 1997, but they had to pull tricks combining 2D and cinematics to create the illusion of a 3D world. No more need for such tricks now, so you can experience the (odd)world how it was always intended + with an extra level of polish. - The music has been polished as well. It was amazing in the original, and it still is here. - The gameplay remains very faithful, but you get some additional conveniences like quicksaves and talking to multiple Mudokons at once. - One thing I wasn't sure about is the way Abe controls. In the original, platforming was "unit-based". Now, Abe can move wherever he wants. It feels more modern/slick, but less precise sometimes. It's a minor thing though; you get used to it fast. (Also: if you're used to the original, you may like the "Sideways hop" option in the settings!) - Finally, I love the added banter/voicework of the mudokons and sligs; it adds even more personality to the game! Whether you've played the original or not, I strongly recommend giving New 'n' Tasty a try!

It's Oddworld, It's Great!

Oddworld is from the 90s, when games were made with tough love. You'll pull a lever and something bad will happen. Now you know to be more careful in the future! But even armed with such knowledge, you will die a lot. Fortunately you don't need quarters to keep playing! Use quicksave a lot, or you'll go crazy. You might still go crazy anyways because many secrets are very well hidden. Oddworld is colorful and strange place with creatures to match. The story is simple with a heavy-handed moral message against the exploitation of people and the environment, which is sadly more relavant than ever nearly 30 years after the original Oddworld. The evil Glukkons destroy and consume everything in sight for profit. Our hero, Abe, is a runaway slave, and you guide him through many perilous levels to free his fellow Mudokons and shut down Rupture Farms! But even when you find everything around you is grim and awful, you can still do something to leave the world a better place than how you found it. And doing the right thing doesn't have to be hard or monumental. Sometimes making a little fart joke to put a smile on someone's face is enough for one day. Happy gaming!

One Of The Best Remasters Ever Made

The developers did such an amazing job on this game that I would actually ditch my original copy of Abe's Oddysee and just play this one from now on. I am absolutely convinced that the developers of this game had this exact graphical style in mind when they made the original, but didn't have the ability to make it happen. I realize that many of you will disagree, but I strongly believe that nearly every PlayStation 1 game deserves to be remastered with modern graphics, because the old versions have not aged well. This game has undoubtedly paved the way for other great remasters of the era, such as the Crash Bandicoot series, the Spyro series, the Medievil series and even the Final Fantasy series. This feels like the natural progression of Oddworld Inhabitants, and I can't wait to see what they will accomplish with Soul Storm.
