You have learned of Lord Estintar’s suspicions that the cult has something to do with the increase in storm activity. He charges you with investigating. The task will not be easy, but you accept this duty. Your quest will take you to uncharted reaches of the Isles of Wynmar. Traps, puzzles, and powerful magic items await, which may or may not be able to help you. Those brave and foolish enough to face these perilous perils will come face to face with the Lord of Storms!

The Nox Archaist: Lord of Storms digital download includes:
  • 15+ hours of new content, including a new quest line
  • New mobs and new unique items
  • New features, including character renaming
  • PDF of the manual

This is an expansion pack for Nox Archaist, and requires the full game to run. To play the Lord of Storms expansion, you must start a new game of Nox Archaist. You cannot import a saved game from the pre-expansion version. The Lord of Storms Expansion includes the complete original storyline along with the expansion content, so once you start a new game you will be able to play the full Nox Archaist scenario. To activate the new content, talk to Lord Estintar in Nourtheld Castle. Ask him about STORMS. After doing this, you can continue with your current quests, or you can work on the quest given by Lord Estintar.

Like all of the Nox Archaist quests, you can start the Lord of Storms with characters at any level. Nevertheless, the Lord of Storms content is designed for a level 4 or 5 party that has been trained and is using level 4 or 5 gear. For players who want to focus more on puzzles and have less challenging combat, a level 5 party would be better. Parties below level 4 may find the adventure too challenging, while those significantly above level 5 may be overpowered. For players who want to dive into the new content, the expansion includes two pregenerated parties of levels 4 and 5.

More puzzles, more items!

Lord of Storms is a DLC for Nox Archaist that takes place in a 3-level keep, its dungeon and extensive caverns below it. The 15-hour DLC integrates seamlessly in the game, although you'll need to start a new game when running the DLC-enabled version. The DLC comes with 2 saved games composed of either a Level 4 or a Level 5 party, properly trained and equipped. So you can jump right into the content that's made for such mid-level parties if you so choose. The DLC fills a hole in the original game where mid-level parties had trouble getting over the XP hump. Get through the Lord of Storms DLC and you'll be well rewarded with both experience for leveling, and powerful weapons and armor for your party. Nothing is imbalanced, just more love for neglected character types such as the bowman/ranger or the 2-handed warrior. The Lord of Storms content has more puzzles than the original game content, and much denser. It also has some fun new mechanics including a new spell. Think of it as the original Nox being more like the Ultima series, and the DLC moving slightly towards The Bard's Tale. If you already own Nox Archaist, get this DLC. If you're thinking of buying Nox Archaist, buy the bundle! The definitive Nox Archaist is here, and this DLC is part of it.

More puzzles, more enemies, more fun

The Lord of Storms DLC adds a few fun new twists to the game. In addition to the expanded content (a mostly standalone chunk of puzzle-heavy stuff in a new location in the game), there are also some significant quality-of-life enhancements. Characters can be renamed (a minor but flavorful improvement). The Quick Combat feature has had some bugs fixed, and also has an optional flag to disable player spellcasting in QC (you only choose QC when the enemies are trivial in the first place, so you certainly don't want to waste magic resources on it!). There are a couple of new unique items which fill some itemization holes. But mostly the expansion is about the puzzles. Thunderbolt Keep is TIGHTLY packed with puzzles and secrets! A particularly fun aspect of it is that you might think you've explored the keep quite thoroughly initially, and then later you figure out just how much stuff you missed the first time through. There's a lot to find! Good luck!

Totally Awesome!! More Nox Archaist!!

The Lords of Storms DLC for Nox Archaist is a fantastic addition that provides a substantial amount of new content, which took me around 25-30 hours to complete. I enjoyed taking my time to explore the new locations and savored the new experiences that the DLC had to offer. As a fan of classic RPGs like Ultima III, IV & V, I was thrilled to see that the new content gave me a chance to relive my childhood gaming memories. If you loved Nox Archaist, then you will love this DLC. I highly recommend purchasing it now, as it adds a lot of value to the game

Lord of Storms is great

If you loved Nox Archaist, stop reading and buy the expansion. It's fantastic. The expansion layers into the game a new island and castle ruins (with its own mythology). The expansion emphasizes puzzle solving over combat (though there's still plenty of combat to be had). This layers in a fresh play style into the existing structure of the game and it's a lot of fun. One big caveat is that if you're an existing Nox player, you cannot import your existing party into the expansion. However if you don't want to restart with a new party, the devs have included a couple of premade parties that you play the expansion with right away. The expansion really does emphasize mapping (there are one or two places where mapping is essential), so get your grid paper (or RPG cartography software) out for this. #TLDR, buy the expansion now :)

A meaty expansion to a fantastic game

I purchased this expansion directly from the developer's website. This expansion provides a really lengthy mid-game chapter with its own story. The new content make Nox Archaist overall a better game, and will surely satisfy to any player who already knows they like Nox. The most important addition is a very large mid-game area to explore—Thunder Keep. Set in a multi-level ruined castle and its underground area, players will fight tough new enemies, find powerful new items and magical; and solve some difficult puzzles. Be warned that some of the puzzles are harder than anything you'll see in the main game, but all can be solved if you pay attention to the clues. The solutions come naturally from the environment, and it never feels like you're trying to read the designer's mind in order to solve an esoteric puzzle. Thunder Keep reminds me of Durlag's Tower (the expansion content for Baldur's Gate 1). Like Durlag's Tower, Thunder Keep provides a brilliant challenge for veterans, while being entirely optional for newer players who aren't ready to tackle it yet. In addition the Thunder Keep, this expansion provides several welcome interface improvements and items. Nox Archaist is already one of my favorite games of all time; and this expansion made it better.
