An excellent action/RPG hybrid with very unique gameplay. Your name is Jack Mower, a 20th century dude who just happened to be sucked into the world of Nox via his TV set. The world is in danger and you have to save it! But before you embark on your epic journey you must choose your path: warrior, wizard, or conjurer.
Choose the path of a warrior, and you will be able to equip and use all manner of swords, battle-axes, war hammers, and chakrams - though you’ll leave the magical mumbo-jumbo up to the Conjurer and Wizard classes. An enchanted weapon is the closest a Warrior gets to magic but that’s OK, because magic is for sissies.
As a Wizard you will explore the mystical art of spell casting, ranging from enemy-confounding illusions to devastating displays of metaphysical force. You’ll also learn to set magical traps containing deadly spell combinations to thwart the unsuspecting foe. Although you’ll have to renounce the use of ungainly swords and armor in the name of your art, you will still be able to wield a staff as a last-ditch physical defense.
If you choose a Conjurer you will be able to magically charm and summon creatures to do your bidding. You can even create a magical creature called a bomber which can wreak sorcerous havoc on your enemies. You’ll also get plenty of experience wielding staves and bows to fend off the few enemies who manage to slip past your minions.
Throwback Thursday Recommendation
We share the earnest reasons that make a classic game so dear to us!
Recommended by Kilg0re_Tr0ut from GOG Stream Team: Nox is a truly underrated game from Westwood Studios. Often written off as a "Diablo-clone", this is really a unique quest oriented action RPG. You play Jack, a young man who (along with his TV) is accidentally teleported to Nox by the evil Hecubah, and it is your job to right things in Nox and eventually defeat her. The story and gameplay adapts to accommodate one of three different character classes you have to choose from, the Warrior, who can't use magic, but has access to all armor and weapon types (except bows and staves), the Conjurer, who can use bows and crossbows, can use some spells, but specialize in summoning monsters that can fight alongside them, and the Wizard class, who specialize in the vast majority of spells in the game, and can even teleport and become invisible. This adds tremendous replayability as playing the game with each character makes for a completely different experience, basically giving you three games in one. Easy to get into, Nox is highly recommended for fans of the genre."

Yes, the game does work on Windows 10.
Just tell Windows 10 to start it in windows 98 compatibility mode.
After all, the game is a Windows95/98 game.
After that. it plays just like the game I loved and spent so much time on 20 years ago. And it still feels like a good game according to current standards. a bit like Diablo with a dash of humor
Nox is one of those games that nerver hit a major success due to it being overshadowed by a few giants at its prime time.
The best way I could describe Nox is by saying that if you were to take the first Diablo game and instead of going for an advanced inventory & skills systems that became Diablo II, you pushed the physics &, animations and environmental interaction by 1000%.
Yes, by that I means that in general the gameplay in Nox beats the crap out of Diablo 2 hands down. Not only does Nox have better controls & gameplay mecanism, it even have a level editor (which is quite complex to use, but works never the less!)
It main lacking features which are why it wasn't able to push above the giants is that its content is generaly limited and as the development studio which made the game (Westwood) was starting to get active by adding new gameplay and content, they were purchased by EA and the IP got abandonned.
The game truly feels like Diablo 1 on steroids with additional gameplay features (like being able to jump over obstacles or having actual impact from attacks from the environment like spells rebouncing off any surfaces). Even inventory wise, the game feels alike.
I don't know if GOG version includes it or not, but the free expansion released separately from the main game is a MUST as it will add dozen if not hundreds of hours by having the Coop-Friendly semi-roguelite dungeon mode with semi-unlimited dungeons and a vast more complex randomized weapons & armors added into the game. If it's not included in the GoG version, I suggest you try finding it online and store it on a drive or something as it's truly the one thing that made this game stand on its own even in shadows until EA's acquisition,
The only reason why I don't give full 5/5 stars is because the game does lack in some areas and the fact that it's abandonned by its publisher (EA) means that what you get is what you'll even have.
Does not work on Windows 10. Upgraded from 7 to 10. This game stopped working, title screen would flash and cursor would disappear after the title screen and game would freeze.
The game itself is really great. The three characters really play different and the game has many lovable details combined with really good game mechanics.
BUT
Unfortunatelly it is not compatible with Windows 10 and that is pretty inconveniant since the game was promoted in a sale ony one week ago.
What is the actual problem? After westwood and the nox Videos are over, you only see a rapidly blinking "Nox" screen. Alt-Tab to windows and back to the game does not help. You cannot even end the game properly.
As it is today (August 1st) I cannot recommend the game if you have allready upgradet to Win 10.
With Win 7 it works perfectly, though and deserves 4 stars!
Game doesn't work out of the box, the website hosting a working patch is down, and honestly no one should have to go through this when buying from gog.
