Nova Drift

I play it now and then when I feel the need to relax for some minutes and stop worrying about something. This is the sort of game that totally absorbs me. Its tactics element, by choosing how improve your ships, adds lots of depth. Definitely does not feel like a still in development game. I'm following the constant updates from the developer and I'm curious to see what will it be when finished.

The control system of Nova Drift, the first thing you'll get to interact with, will be slightly different, than you expect. In the beginning, you'll do a lot more drifting, than you'd like (that is where the name actually comes from). But after a few rounds, you will get the hang of it. And if you get that far, there is a lot to like here. And I mean a lot a lot. If you want a spaceship, that fires normal bullets? Go have at it! Rokets? Sure! Energy Novas so strong, they develop their own gravitational pull? Of course, just make sure not to destroy yourself with them. Want to ditch your weapons completely and turn into a giant snake, that tailwhips enemies to death? This game can give it to you all. In the beginning for me it was more fun to stick with one build and try to optimize it, rather than trying something different with every run. Just as a heads up, - with the science ship, it is possible to banish upgrades, making it easier to get what you want - playing on a higher difficulty makes the game easier for good builds, since you'll get more experience. I've got over 200 hrs played of this game on Steam, and learned it was on GOG so came over here to pick up a DRM free copy. If you're into RPG builds with tons of depth and synergies, but also want a face-paced shooter, this is the game for you. It's also beauitful - the colors, design, and background are just phenomenal. I really can't recommend this game enough - if you're into these types of games (deep roguelite shooters), this game is a sure-fire win, imo. I will say this game is pretty challenging, be forewarned. I hope future updates have some kind of alternate play modes, perhaps by offering multiple lives or some such, to allow for more fulfilling utilization of the rpg-mechanics. It's frustraing when you finally get a good build going and then you get trapped in a boss's kill zones or there's just too many bullets on the screen to effectively evade when health is low. It sounds like the forthcoming Enemies 2.0 update may help with some of this. The fact that this is an early-access/in-development game is crazy to me, there's already so much here, The dev makes himself very available, and actively seeks players' feedback and critiques, which I also find pretty cool. I really can't wait to see what future updates hold!

I don't usually enjoy roguelikes, I get burnt out on them with few exceptions. This is one of those exceptions, it's so simple, yet satisfying with many different ways to play, all fun. The aesthetic is pleasing to look at, the music suits the action and the way you move feels really good once you get used to it. There's all sorts of ways to build your ship and I've had good luck with experimenting, though I've also screwed myself over a few times. Overall, it's a very fun game that's easy to pick up and put down.

Excellent little roguelite shooter, plenty of unlocks and runs smooth as butter. If you ever played Asteroids back in the olden days, give this one a shot. The main attraction besides more bullets than you can shake a stick at is the deliclously broken builds you can unlock. Yeah, there's a bit of RNG involved, but the re-rolls are plenty and you unlock a greater selection of stuff per level up as you progress.
