Meh, it's been done better...
I can't recommend this one-- even if it were free, you might find you'll want a refund on your time. I just found it boring relatively quickly. I've played other games like this before, and this incarnation is a mixed bag of iffy design and gameplay. The interface can be a bit cumbersome, as are the mechanics, and honestly I was BORED no matter how much I tried it. It's like chewing gum-- interesting at first, but then you spend a lot of time waiting for things to happen and not sure what you're supposed to do, moving units around trying to figure things out, then once you do...meh. Anything by Sid Meier even from decades back was more fun, and Dungeon Keeper (I and II) had about the same graphics technology and had much better gameplay and design. Instead I heartily recommend 'Surviving Mars', which has captivated me for hours on end, and still has a lot of replayability. But if you want old-world experience, then 'Banished' may be more your speed-- no battles or Viking action, but the mechanics and gameplay are much better and even its frustrating parts are far better by comparison, plus the animation is more vivid and interesting.
