Great, for a certain type of player
You will absolutely love this game if your favorite part of "Assassin's Creed" games is synchronizing viewpoints, your favorite part of "Elder Scrolls" games is climbing mountains and looking at the scenery, and your favorite part of "Terraria" is digging down into enormous caverns. It takes a lot of getting used to because there's no manual, but once you've got the hang of it it's a lot of fun. Unfortunately, one of the issues with not having a manual is that there's nothing to tell you that you have to hold the buttons down for a few seconds, even in menus. It's a trifle odd at first, but it serves its purpose for making sure you don't accidentally waste resources, and after a while it adds to the retro/used future aesthetic. The interface in general is, I think, purposefully kludgy to contribute to that sense. The only time it really annoys me is when trying to quit the game, since the option panes aren't situated quite how you'd expect and it takes five button presses to get back to the desktop. The only other non-bug-related annoyance of note is that because there are no loading screens within a star system, the initial loading screen and hyperspace travel between systems takes a really, really long time, at least on my machine. This isn't annoying enough to spoil the experience, but it would have been nice if they added an element to break up the monotony of these screens, maybe with some of the fortune-cookie aphorisms that pop up when you get killed.
