Educational aspects:
While playing Niche, the player is introduced to the scientific mechanics of genetics (featuring dominant-recessive, co-dominant inheritance, etc). The game also features the five pillars of population genetics (genetic drift, genetic flow, mutation, natural selection, sexual selection). All knowledge is interwoven with the game-mechanics. This creates the effect of learning by playing.

I love this game, its fun to match your nichelings to get the best genetics for your island and so fun to travel to a new island! I wish more people knew about this self-paced, strategy genetics survival game! Only wish i have is that when you move nichelings in the family tree that it would stay that way, for easier tracking.
This game is way more fun than it should be, probably because it is very satisfying to your inner cruel scientist and of course your primal instincts of mating and reproducing. I guess that it is, but it is probably more the cruel scientist.
For how fun this game is you probably want ot hold of until it is 50% of, because there isn't that much. There should be expension packs with more genetical stuff, right now it is kinda somewhere at Spores level, just with more genetics. And without all the other stuff.
Also the presentation is piss poor in terms of graphical fidelity. Seriously no animations? I understand that the head is not correctly atteached to the body, since it makes it easier to expand but no real animations? I am sorry but I can do it better with ease. But that would be easily patchable actually.
Well now excuse me I have to go further with my incest studies.
Unfortunately I could never figure the game out. I buy a lot of games that I do not like but all the reviews are great. I am guessing the people who do not enjoy it just move on like me. Buying games without trying them is a crap shoot since this is the one product you buy you cannot get a refund if you do not like it. I recommend trying someone's copy of this before you buy or watch game play videos. Maybe I am just old and stupid but I deleted this shortly after trying it out.
I had this on my wishlist for months. I just read the bit about how you promote the 'five pillars of genetics'. Uh-huh. Who thought up that idiotic nonsense? I refuse to support people passing off idiotic theories as educational facts. Hopefully someday we'll see a game that can present this correcltly. This is a no-go, I won't support it.
..and searching with no avail for females to breed with (like my life)
With the way breeding plays out and how animals look, it feels like a more focused Spore. My only complaint is that the tutorial doesn't really touch down on some of the more in-depth mechanics about passing down genetics.
..Oh and that when do I find a female they usually have a very ugly incest look to them, but this game lets you kill them :-)
