Underrated Gem
I think this game is grossly underrated, it's WWI, it's painkiller. What more could you ask for?

Hard to get used to, but brilliant 2.
Although the game was published before Lost Company (LC), I played the latter first (as it serves as a prequel) and this game afterwards. Clearly higher production values than LC. There are more cutscenes and videos, the protagonist talks more often so we learn more about his feelings and thoughts and also making some funny comments. The story is simple and also explains much about what is happening in LC, but it also has its own plot holes. Some observations to help you: 1) I consider the game overally more difficult than LC. 2) The game lasts for 12 Chapters. Since Ch. 5 onwards, there aren’t any health packs lying around. You’ll have to depend on health drops from enemies and health regeneration. 3) There are instances where the enemies seemed to be respawing indefinitely, unless you move forward. A feature that isn’t in LC. 4) There is the thing about you wearing the ShadowHand on left hand and shooting with guns with RMB (as in LC) in all second half of the game (while in LC it was only in the last two chapters), but I forgive it here, as the glove is really more useful than in LC. 5) As in LC, enemies aren’t that easy to kill, even on easy, unless you are achieving headshots. 6) You can save anytime, except on hard only autosaving. 7) Three endings on the three difficulties. BEWARE – BUG: In Ch. 6 there are 3 iron bridges that you’ll have to extend to proceed, with the first two being far from one another. Take care to retract the first (with the button on the other side) after you have passed it. If not, the second won’t extend and you won’t be able to return to the first to fix this! It appears as if only one has to be extended at any one time! However, if already in this situation, there is still another solution: you can move along the edge on the left (before the second bridge) to continue the level. I admit that I enjoyed LC more, maybe because of its more serious and mature hero, but each game has its virtues.

GREAT Old Game!
Necrovision... First, I could have thought of a better name for it, maybe 'Necromeister'? Lol. NOT into 'zombie' games, but I AM into cross-over military shooters, like early Wolfensteins -- this game and it's companion 'Lost Company' is one of these, and is a hidden gem I had not tried until recently, then bought here at GOG. A glorious mess in some ways; more glorious than it is a mess. It seems always at a fair price, to take into account some of the quirks. Others have mentioned 'old-school' shooter in reviews of this; they are my favorite kind when they are Good ones. Necrovision is a great one for this: a WWI cross between 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein' and 'Wolfenstein' 2009. Other than some glitches, I like it even better for the gameplay, sound-effects, graphics and atmosphere: a remake would be great, for a few complaints Others here have mentioned. One Other mentioned also playing on 'easy' difficulty at first, and I think is always a good idea to get the feel for a game; this one as well: there are a number of Interesting differences in melee, weapons, etc, and extra keys and mouse buttons for these, but that I don't find too difficult to learn; and I'm a very OLD dog here. Lol. It can also be played without much difference from other shooters if one prefers; simply remember, dynamite, if you have and need it, you arm by hitting the '1' key two or three times. The developers crammed much innovation and creativity into this game; there is some difference between the Title and the add-on, but are similar, and I like both, and I rate five stars for both of them. I also like the story-lines and cutscenes well enough, that compare to 'Wolfenstein', but more interactive and more often: more like being there. These are also not overdone, I think, and flow well in and out of the action. I have missed games like this over the years, and I am thankful to have found them here at GOG! :-)

OK for the sale price
For a game in the under 2€ category, it is quite good actually. Kinda like a cheap version of the original COD just set in WWI with Zombies etc added. The mechanics aren't great (like with many old games), what bothers me most is the pixelated crosshair, which makes the game look cheap (but that's not really something you can reasonably complain about at 1€). On the positive side, it works in fullscreen mode on 2K monitors without problems (not always the case with old games), and the athmosphere is done really well. I personally would have preferred to have human opponents only, but overall, the game is fun to play. I have seen other games at this price that were not even worth 1€ (I bought this from a refund for another cheap, truly awful game) - I struggled to get into the game on some of them (because the main menu wouldn't load/work correctly). This one ran well from the start (on Win10), no tweaks or fixes required to get going. Don't expect a masterpiece, and you'll be quite happy with what you get for your money.

old engine but good!
though a lot is said about WWII, the gulf war and even our recent wars, not many games or movies on WWI or the "Great War" as it was called in WWI time! This game goes well into it, it is primarily a "subplot" to use an analogy in that war. though the game deals mainly with a single soldier trapped in a bazaar circumstance, it does give you sa bit of insite into tte actual Great War of the early 1900's. the bulk fo the game is a side quest of dealing with strange supernatural occurances in underground labrinthes. you have the traditional mundaine wheapons at your disposal which makes it all the more cool you rely on conventional means and your wit to survive and progress rather than laser guns and BFGs or what not. they didn't have those in 1916, by the way! The only thing lacking is flying a WWI fighter plane in addtion to being a footman! now THAT would be cool! The game or at least its engine is older than I thought but it is a trusty old steed so it works well in this game. the action is tense and at times difficult to gage what is going on, as in a real fight in a war situation! I highly recommend you get the entire series incuding the prequal, "Lost Company"!
