The visuals and atmosphere blew my mind!

Some spoilers in review as to who your character is meant to represent, play first before reading.
Two tips for 2 of the puzzles further down in the puzzle section that I would recommend you take a look at to not run into the same head scratching I did.

This blew my mind!
The colors and artwork was so surreal, contorted, full of pain and suffering but oh so beautiful to behold.
The atmosphere and immersion, the music and sounds, everything was a visual journey and I was rather mesmerized despite the grotesqueness of it all.
The story is told through everything around you and a few log journals along the way, but mainly through everything happening around you.
its clear from the start that you are in 'hell' or some underworld, with the usual references along the way to this universe. Also the usual pyramid all seeing eye later in that is frequently tied to death and spirituality and reawakening
.
Whether you believe in gods or not, the ending had me sit with my mouth open once you really realise who you are supposed to represent.
I am not religious at all but the story here is great, scary and evil, full of suffering and pain, worship and sacrifice, but the philosophical views that to appreciate the good, to be happy, love and know pleasure, one must first feel pain and suffering to understand what is missing.
I really loved some of these things throughout even though I dont think it realistic and not believing in this way.
There is no action or combat.
Its a walking sim with incredible sights along the way, some light puzzles here and there and some locations to watch their awsome animations!
Take it all in, dont rush, look at the moving beings and take in the settings.
To add to all of this, this game has an incredible photo mode option for screenshots!
I spent countless hours on this as I love taking pics and editing. I used to live in Reshade in a previous game I played so this was a huge bonus for me to play around with :D
I dont know if its a bug or a thing they let be because it can be used in cool and fun ways in photomode, but the various corpses and such would slowly lift off.
Which I quickly picked up on and positioned myself and camera to take some fun scenes with and was often kicking corpses around to place them where I wanted :D
There are not a lot lying around to use for this purpose, and only in some angles if you are close enough, but I had a blast with this 'feature' in some locations and backgrounds xD.
I loved how the death/respawn system worked, pretty cool tbh.
And that bit tentacle dude in the small room that grabs you like that, I was just blown away by all these little happenings left and right and hardly knew where to look because there is so much to take in everywhere :o

I had a fatal error and other crashes on startup right after install at first using proton (via Heroic), but reinstalling and using system wine worked.

The first puzzle right at the beginning can soft lock your progress if you do it in the wrong order, which I managed to do.
You need to find three brains total, for the canon and the big bug thing to move it out of the way. But if you insert the first two you find into the bug and skip the canon/didnt see that one yet, you cant take them out again.
And you need one of those first two brains for the canon to get to the third brain and then remove the inserted one again so you have all 3 for the bug.
So use one in the canon first, or you will need to restart the game. This is no matter in this case since its at the start and it takes 1 min to run and gather the things you have now already done once and know.
But that was one small thing that took a lot of time for me to riddle out why it wouldnt work.
Another puzzle later in which has had many wondering if it was bugged, me also, is the one where you need to pull out the maggots from the corpse.
Its not as simple as that! It is a pattern sequence you need to memorize and pull them out in the right order.

Since this game is so frequently compared to and discarded because 'its not Scorn', I made sure to play Necrophosis first for an unbiased experience.
-Edit
I personally prefer Necrophosis but each their own preference and oppinion.
But I dont think they can be compared at all, they are each their own game and good in their own ways.
