Necromunda: Hired Gun

This game is an absolute blast! The controls are standard issue FPS with silky, accurate, movement. The environment is stunning, gigantic, steampunk, with rich lighting. The UI is difficult to learn but worth the time. I ran it on a GeForce 1050 Ti at about a 60 frame rate. A definite buy for FPS fanboys, especially when on sale.

Clearly the developers never ever played a videogame, especially not this chaotic mess here. The game itself is solid. Graphics, sounds, mechanics, aesthetics. But it's way too hard - endlessly spawning enemies, no powerful weapons, confusing interface. And there is no sprint button. The character walks fast and has this sliding move, but in a game with humongous areas with dozens enemies spawning (like in Generatorum level) it's just absolutely no fun. One is getting his bottom kicked, even on Easy difficulty - you feel like playing against bouncing Godlike-tier bots like in Unreal Tournament. This game could be fun, but the developers tried to make it NOT fun. Wasted potential, wasted time, wasted money.

Fun game, a mix of Doom and Titanfall, with a great eenvironment and a great soundtrack. The main story is fun and engaging and the secondary missions are a fine and more in a bounty style. Levelling is also well done in my opinion with the ability to change pretty much every aspect of your avatar and its weapons. Note that the game can be repetitive. In order to like the game you need to like its main loop. Enemies arer always the same and the only thing changing is level design. The only complain I have is the performance. I have to use a lower resolution, disable dx 12, put everything to medium to get a almost always smooth experience with a 1080 TI. I still get some stutters and it's very annoying.

The technical issues with this game go beyond being "janky". I paused the game to do some housework, and when returning the game had crashed to such an extent that not only did ctrl-alt-del not work, but neither did ctrl-shift-esc, win-ctrl-shift-b, or any other key combination. Considering that my mouse also did not respond, it seems like my entire operating system had been broken to such an extent that input devices were disabled. All this to say that this game has serious technical problems that I think probably neither the developers or the community are even aware of, and the fact that they are undocumented makes playing this game before they have been identified and fixed particularly dangerous.

I just finished the game yesterday and I had a lot of fun, eventhough it's not the most polished game and particularly the story feels underdeveloped and rushed. I wish the player character could have played a bigger role and that Shadow as well as Silver Talon could have had a bit more character development. It was all over way too quickly too. I do want to read the books featuring Kal Jerico now though. Atmosphere, art-design and the music are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, regading these I should give the game 5 stars. The gameplay itself is very satisfying, but way more oldschool/arcady than I anticipated, I personally would have prefered something like Darktide in terms of movement and gunplay, but I still had a lot of fun. It's also very easy to get into a great flow of velocity and violence.
