IN THE BATTLE FOR YOUR LIFE, THERE IS NO SECOND PLACE.
In the future, racing has become a deadly bloodsport - where staying alive is the only prize. NECRODOME is a real-time, 3D, futuristic motorized mayhem that puts you at the wheel of an incredibly powerful armored vehicle - bristling with hi-tech weapons. Win or die in 30 daunting arenas. Keep on winning and you’ll make it to the Necrodome!
Not to be mistaken for one of those boring race games, NECRODOME is first and foremost about survival. Drive around and blast anything that moves! And if your vehicle gets thrashed, don't give up - run for your life, commandeer another vehicle, or continue the battle on foot!
This old-school 3D real-time shooter features a “super-realistic” environment from the 90s. Performance-based vehicle upgrades. Multiple camera angles. And more gut-twisting action than you can handle!
I randomly found this game about a year ago looking thru old shooters online and ended up running a demo version through a Windows 95 virtual machine with a full second lag input and awful sound. The game looked so cool and I was really disappointed I couldn't get the full experience. Randomly saw it come up on GOG today and it really made my week!
You ride around in a car with guns on it and sometimes you have to get out and run around to flip switches. It's just a really cool experience and probably one of the first of its kind.
Thanks GOG!
A beautiful old game which has been fixed, and can run on the newest platforms without any hassle. This purchase will save you alot of headaches messing around with virtual machines, random crashes and the annoying 3 key rollover limit which plagues the original install on an old / virtual machine.
Do not expect modern features, as this game is not a remaster (although there are unofficial patches, see forum).
Would be nice of SNEG to add the demo levels though, it would make the series complete.
I've been waiting for this game to pop on GoG for years, now.
I'm nearing the end of the game (completed 27 missions out of 30) and it is quite close to Doom, but with a vehicle.
The game unveils in the US. Before each mission, we get to select one among one, two or three. Then, we are dropped in a map, with more or less enemies, many with different stats and gears.
In the map, we can collect lots of ammo, weapons, gears etc.
The goal, for each mission, is to capture the flag and bring it back to the start of the level. For that you'll have to trigger switches, destroy said amount of enemies, etc.
It looks a lot like Doom graphically, but is very original in its approach, where we drive a vehicle. Another original and sweet mechanic is the fact that we can exit and enter it whenever we want, and if the vehicle is destroyed, we get to play on foot.
This is where it hurts, on foot gameplay is really bad : the character is heavy, there's only one, unefficient weapon with unlimited ammo...Nothing near as good as the vehicle part.
And while this part is good, it also suffers from obese hitboxes. While it drives well, you'll often hit walls that you don't seem to even physically touch.
Apart from that, the game is quite easy. Although, near the end, one mission is bugged and forces the player to cheat to pass it.
Now, the game released in 1996 and I'd like to say it certainly took balls to have such a take on the FPS genre when it was rather new. It was original, it tried to bring something fresh to the gaming industry, it is not bad, so just for that 5/5, if you like this genre, it really smells like nostalgia.
I have been looking for this game for a long time. The last time i played it was around 1997 when i had it as Demo version on my first PC. It works great, the only problem is mouse steering but it's of no problem to me since i played it using only keboard and in regards to resolution i didn't encounter any problem.
