FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Do I need a VR headset to play Myst?
A: You do not need a VR headset to play Myst. Myst is playable with or without a VR headset.
Q: I bought Myst when it first came out in 1993. Can I get a free upgrade to this new version?
A: Thank you for your support over the years! We are not giving out free upgrades to previous purchasers of the original Myst. We put a lot of effort into making this new version of Myst and would appreciate your financial support again!
Q: I want to play Myst, but am concerned about my computer not meeting the minimum requirements. What should I do?
A: If your machine does not meet the minimum requirements and you still want to try Myst out, we recommend enabling one of our supersampling options through the graphics settings menu to see if it alleviates performance concerns. Depending on the storefront you purchase Myst from, you may be able to qualify for a refund through the store (not through Cyan support) if Myst does not run well on your platform. Please review each store platform refund policy for details.
Q: Will Myst support [insert language here] one day?
A: Possibly! We’d love to hear from you through our support team about any languages you’d like for us to support.

As far as 3D remakes of Myst go (quite a few funny enough) I prefer this one over RealMyst. If for no other reason than the movement controls are just plain better.
Pros: Environments look nice and it has decent movement controls. I definitely appreciated the gameplay subtitles options. I always had trouble with the sound cue puzzles so that was a welcome addition. Didn't try the 'randomize puzzle' option but that's a neat option.
Cons: The 3D character models are really lacking. That got partially mitigated with the option to have the original FMV though (an option not available at launch it seems). Also not a fan of some of the color palette changes such as on Stoneship Age, but that's subjective on my part.
As far as whether to get this if you have the original? If you don't have VR, then the value is an excuse to revist an old classic, so I recommend getting it on discount.
(I didn't play the complete game yet and playing on a flat screen. I am now in the third age). I've been playing myst since the nineties and this is the greatest version. Now we can see Myst in all its glory. I turned all the graphic options on including raytracing and it looks gorgeous. Also it becomes a lot less confusing when walking around in a 3D world instead of navigating through still images (although that part already was solved in 'RealMyst'.
Note you can enable the FMV sequences in the settings if preferred (I enabled it). The world now looks totally realistic and especially the sea is a joy to look at.
...that I would be standing IN this game in the 2020s!
This game looks great in VR. Specifically on the HP Reveb G2. Neither are you stuck on Teleport, you have the option to freely smooth walk, which I prefer. There are a decent number of options to alter the VR experience to your tastes.
The moment I started this game I was brought right back. Graphics is really good, improved greatly. Water looks really good, birds fly in the sky, leaves move. Sound is really good, especially the great original music and voices.
The CGI of the talky guys is not too bad at all - Acceptable. Though I will say why not use new real actors for that absolutely real look?
There's a Classic mode and one other mode where maybe the puzzles change? Haven't tried it. Classic seems pretty much the same as I remember, with very few changes to the visuals and puzzles. It's pretty much as I remember.
Right from the start with the book falling (and the man, I'm pretty sure there was no falling man originally) brought me back.
The place feels smaller, but I guess it would in VR, since you actually take up space IN it.
Criticisms? I couldn't walk/run between 2 trees when there was a clear space, there was just an invisible wall. I wish I could run up/down the bank instead of having to take the path every time. strange when you have freedom of movement to be restricted for no reason.
But these are very small criticisms.
Recommended, especially in VR.
p.s. I wonder if my daughter will remember this game as I played this with her watching on my knee at the time?
I have enjoyed every new technological iteration of this game that Cyan has produced, and I particularly like the turn to grounded practicality in this latest version with puzzle controls that make more sense within the world.
But the newly reimagined Rime addition really puts it over the top! This has taken the best of their approach from redesigning Riven and given great new insight into the characters, in a beautiful environment ❄️
