Classic tale, fantastic execution

As someone who grew up in the Alpine region, but not directly in Switzerland, it felt like visiting familiar neighbours. The artstyle is wonderful, and I do think the handdrawn textures work really well with the lowpoly look and the black&white aesthetics of it all, capturing a quite unsettling atmosphere like many old movies had. Atleast in my eyes. Additionally, having the game fully voiced in Rhaeto-Romanic was a really cool, and wonderful sounding experience! The story itself is the sort of tale, from the eerie mountain peaks down to the farmers lifes and worries, which is really, really familiar to me, so I basically saw everything more or less coming from the first handshake onwards, but this didn't detract from my joy of the game, on the contrary, it felt all so well fitting together. Additionally, I have to say, I loved the absolutely dry humour of the game, blending the ridiculous with the unsettling in a really good way. Oh, and I enjoy that the "courage juice" wasn't alcohol but coffee.

Story and graphics are AMAZING

This is a great game! Has a great story and very interesting graphic style where all the textures are hand painted. The gameplay could be better. Fighting the monsters is a little clunky. The pipe and the fork are very frustrating from time to time. I had moments when i smashed the mouse on the table out of frustrations. Overall good experience.

A Stand Out Horror Adventure Game!

I adored Mundaun. Even with what must have been a modest budget, this adventure game exudes style, charisma, charm and tension in league with the best of them. Its a folk horror game that lets it's folkyness just exist and sublimate throughout the experience without the need for explanation, you just take it as is and it's magical. Its the right level of difficulty too where you can lose a little progress if you aren't careful but it won't ever keep you from getting through. Exploration is encouraged in the open yet contained levels with gameplay rewards scattered about alongside little narrative tidbits. A must play for horror fans or adventure game aficionados.

Let down by combat, stealth, and ending

Regarding combat, the first 2 methods you acquire for fighting are a pitchfork and lighting the enemies on fire. Regarding the pitchfork, you can't just press a button and have your dude attack with it. You have to hold down the button so the guy can basically wind up the attack, and then when he's ready, you release the button. Meaning a basic attack takes several seconds to execute, and when you start out, it takes 3 stabs from the pitchfork to kill an enemy. And the pitchfork breaks after 4 successfully stabs (and my friend and I only ever found 2 pitchforks in the entire game). As for lighting the enemy on fire, you can only do that if the enemy is standing on a patch of hay you can ignite (which is stupid considering that the only enemy you can do this to are themselves hay monsters [don't ask]). Also, even if you do light the enemy on fire, it still takes a while for said enemy to die and they can still attack/kill you while engulfed. Your 3rd method of killing enemies is to hit them over with a hay truck. However, it still takes several hits from the truck to kill 1 enemy, and you can still get hurt while in the truck. And considering how you have to wait for the enemy to get back up before you can damage them again, if you have to contend with more than 1 enemy, you're better off running away. The last method is by using a rifle, which you don't get until the last quarter of the game. But of course, using the rifle is still cumbersome and time consuming to use. Oh, also, there's 1 kind of enemy you encounter whom you can't kill, and the game doesn't tell you this until after you get close to said enemy and try to kill them. As for the stealth, its not clear how far the enemy can see, and if you're spotted, its very difficult to get them to give up on chasing you. Also, they all have long range attacks. Plus, there's this stupid mechanic where, when your guy is afraid, he moves slower (making it harder to run away). Lastly, all 5 endings suck.
