Excellent game for an Indie Developer. This is one of the games that the trailer does no justice for it. After watching the gameplay and mechanics on Youtube I was sold.
Graphics are very nice and the music really fits the theme. This is a puzzle game you won't regret buying. Some levels really make you think if you want to achieve your objectives 100%.
Whether on sale or not it's a great deal and well worth your time and money. This is coming from a person that rarely plays puzzle games and I am really impressed with this one.
Mousecraft is a entertaining puzzle-game, which is basically a mix of Lemmings and Tetris.
You have to guide three mice (which behave like lemmings) through a level full of dangeres to a piece of cheese. To help the mice there are Tetris-like blocks to build a path. New items are introduced step by step in the game which enrich the puzzle experience and bring diversion to the game.
Guiding all three mice to the cheese is more or less easy, but there are also collectible crystals and it can be very tricky to get all of them. Better said: to leed the mice to all cristals.
Despite beeing an indie game programmed by a small game studio Mousecraft offers good graphics and performance and seems quite professional. And the most important thing: it's quite fun to play!
(Review after 27/80 Levels)
The best thing about this rather easy puzzle game is that there are many small levels (instead of few giant ones). Therefore it is quite pleasant to play a few levels now and then without needing to spend too much time at once. Sometimes a bit buggy (had to restart a level a few times due to unclickable icons) and the difficulty curve is not very straight, the game is hardest around its middle part (and especially last levels are very easy because the last unlocked brick feals like cheating :-D). But still I definitely recommend it. With cartoonish graphics and rather mild difficulty it is also a great game for kids.
The style is great, the puzzles are both challenging but at the same time quite doable. The game mechanics flow very well.
As the difficulty ramps up you are given the option to complete a level with imperfect results. I think this is great, allowing you to come back later and try a puzzle, instead of just being frustrated on "having to finish" the current one.
Here is my MouseCraft Video Review:
https://youtu.be/kQ-RtPl9AuI
Has Mousecraft succeeded with the bold idea to combine seemingly incompatible puzzle genres as Lemmings and Tetris? There are many positives on the game - original idea that works, adding new features as the player progresses through the game, good level design, gradually increasing learning curve, challenging yet not frustrating difficulty, user friendly interface and controls and beautiful graphics. I have not found many downsides there - dull story, rather generic music and absence of some form of local multiplayer. Thanks to its easy accessibility, non-violent character, short levels and good puzzle design Mousecraft is definitely the kind of game suitable for family playing.
Pros:
- original and working idea
- continuously adding new features
- level design
- gradually increasing learning curve
- difficulty
- interface and controls
- graphics
Cons:
- story
- music
- no local multiplayer
I like the developers that have enough courage to experiment with genres and combine them into something new that seemingly cannot work. Crunching Koalas have done the great job this time and realized one of such ideas almost flawlessly. I am therefore giving Mousecraft Thumbs Up and VideoGaming Father’s Index 8+ out of 10 - recommended!
