Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
I bought the game at 10PM, downloaded it, and suddenly it was 7AM. If you play, you will play a LOT. Do beware of that. Mods can extend your playtime to ethernity, but seriously, whatch put for addiction.
TL;DR Bad graphics, sound is not bad but something good, basically old game now BUT OH GOD ITS FUN!
So basically graphics are outdated, it looks like 2005 game (released 2010), sound is like OK music not quantity but cant say its bad. and that's bad parts that are visible on first sight.
Youre thrown in world where merchant gets you in his house and says if you would like to save his daughter (tutorial) learning you how to recruit and fight and thats it. No story or any other help at all. I started playing this game in 2008 (with Mount & Blade) and i discovered a lot because i didnt have a lot of games so i got into it but today with so many games most people go away from it because you have so much to learn. You need to learn characters, locations, mechanics and everything.
Now I explained some backstory, about game, combat is maybe the best, EVER! and very simple. You go around and start low having 5-6 man fighting bandits, later you build more, join army and at end either help one of kings conquer all, help successor take throne or make new kingdom but in reality you can do whatever you want, that it its best part where you decide what you want to be and downside because you have to decide what you want to be (for me big plus).
Now basic game is fun and like it so I use Floris mod which is vanilla EXPANDED and makes game 10 times better, but if you want conversion and big addition of realism then i recommend Brytenwelda mod (continued as expansion Viking Conquest which is worse IMO).
Have fun!
A truly open RPG where you're not "the chosen one" you're not "the dragonborn" you're not "the last of your race".
You're nothing special, you're just a person, and if you want to become a king, you need to put in the right amount of work.
If you've ever played Sword of the Samurai or Pirates! Gold, then this game will feel familiar.
Be warned, it's not easy. It can even be pretty grindy if you don't know what you're doing; I barely know what I'm doing, yet it still keeps pulling me back in.
Yeah, it's a mixed bag, but I find the game quite fun and engaging. Good offering from an indie producer. While the game lacks a plot or meaningful NPC development, I love the freedom of choosing how to get by in the world, and eventually, being able to reshape the political landscape because of personal choices: who to pledge fealty to, who to support, who to undermine, etc. I enjoy the concept of starting on the ground, with very little, and eventually rising to prominence, even ruling one's own kingdom.
Clear-cut character builds and stats. I find that the game heavily favors hack and slash initially, and late game greatly rewards charismatic commander builds for big armies. Micro becomes way more important as the game progresses, such as feeding your army, training fresh recruits, and creating armies that excel in the field. Trade can, with the right stats, be very profittable.
After a few characters, I would grind in the arena, until my stats were passable. I've found that winning tourneys and investing in productive enterprises are my go-to strategy for early wealth, building a strong foundation for providing for a burgeoning army.
Some great mods out there in the community. Shout-out to Floris and the mod, which balances some of vanilla’s issues.
Noticed that save games get consistently corrupted (less so with vanilla), so save early and often.
Native AI is at times laughably poor, and you can mercilessly cheese hordes of enemies to death. Mounted forces have a tremendous advantage. I iced 80+ bandits solo, using hit and run horse archery tactics, and mopping up the rest with couched lance damage. It took time to develop the stats to do it, and lots of patience, but nothing more. After getting familiar with commanding larger forces, with the right troops and usage of terrain, the opposing AI will charge your upgraded troops, and you watch as your enemies get dropped into the woodchipper.
Not everyone's cup of tea. Grindy and repetitive quests, but a lot of area to cover, and tremendous flexibility.
