My very first review on literally anything here with a library of 307 games here on GOG!
I'm getting some very inexplicable control slop, mild half second delay in control input weather I'm using keyboard controls or a USB controller (For reference I'm using a Logitech F310 in XInput mode)
It's very hard to move properly over the slop, it's even noticable in the menus when i move my cursor around.
This game actually got me onto GOG, I had no idea this service existed! Anyway, this version of Trilogy definitely feels like a quicker version of the Playstation version. Visually this game is a bit lacking since it hasn't been updated. Even against the arcade/Mame version of UMK3, they just couldn't reach that level of graphics for this I guess.
With that said it's still klassic MK, which is always a great time. It has good sound and good speed. I am hoping they update this even more along the way. Maybe this will inspire Netherrealm to finally make an HD remake of klassic MK. Glad to see Trilogy on a modern platform!
I am thrilled to be able to play one of my childhood favorites that is a non N64 version. We didn't get to have the alter Raiden, Jax, Kano, and Kung Lao or the sub-bosses Goro and Kintaro. Finished playing to sessions with each of the bosses and my inner child thanks me.
Only one concern that I have currently is that I am unable to install and launch the game from GOG Galaxy and I'm not sure why. The game does not show up even though I have purchased it.
Thanks GOG for bringing this classic back!
MK nostalgia is a big reason to play this game. Seeing the mash up of older versions of characters and stages mixed with UMK3 is an experience and seems great on paper. The huge drawback is the nonsense level of difficulty - this game is not very fun single player. You're not really learning to "git good" - you just have to figure out the spammy ways to trick the cheap AI, which is pretty much an MK staple, but home releases typically don't have arcade levels of cheap AI like MK trilogy. This has full arcade difficulty and turning it to very easy doesn't do much to lessen it.
Great to see this game released in the best format, but I was quickly reminded of how fast the CPU make this game near unplayable for casual players. Watching the CPU finish you off with one of the laziest fatalities ever created - Brutalities - is obnoxious when you just want to continue and get on with trying again. I love MK so much, but would just recommend playing the superior arcade versions of MK1, 2, and UMK3.
Do not buy this game. the controlls can not be be changed and the pause button is selected as Y. I got it to play with my wife because she loved the game when it came out on the PS. i wish i could give it a 0 star
