Welcome to Mordheim: City of the Damned!

Play the first video game adaptation of Games Workshop's tabletop game Mordheim. Set in the Warhammer World's decimated Empire city, Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based tactical game where you lead warbands into bloody and lethal skirmishes. The game blends RPG elements, fast-paced tactical combat and intricate unit customization in a time wrought by chaos and rivalry where only the strongest survive.

After a twin tailed comet crashed on Mordheim, the City of the Damned turned into a terrifying battlefield where rival warbands fight fiercely for the control of key neighborhoods, looking for glory and fortune by acquiring the very valuable Wyrdstone fragments.

Choose from iconic Mordheim warbands and lead your troops in epic battles where fame and glory await. Your strategy will definitely be your best ally! Visit the four corners of the City of the Damned to complete multiple missions in the solo campaign.

a more 'challenging' turn-based game

...but not for the right reasons for everyone. i tend more toward the more positive reviews here. i have this game on Steam and found it enjoyable, but i have little interest in the Warhammer world. the flaky AI and RNG does make things a bit tougher than the usual, but i really like the freedom of movement in the maps, and the detailed mechanics of the game. it's amongst the deepest mechanics i've played in this kind of game, and found myself getting sucked into it's world thanks to it's morbid beauty. if the AI had been fixed this would be up there with the best of them for me.

Utter jank, but...

...But that is kind of why you buy Warhammer games. The more they polish, the more they'll end up removing the fun. In that sense, the jank is good. It's good that jumps, obstacles and line of sight break the AI. It's good that poison globadiers are OP, ranged combat is cheese, magic can have practically any positive or negative result and rolls are rigged. It's good that sometimes an impressive enemy spawns next to your weakest henchman and kills him before you can take a turn. I was surprised to find that I enjoy the campaign missions. They come with their own separate category of additional jank, but if you can get past that, there's a lot of fun to be had. All in all, recommended.

Very hard but rewarding

Quite a hard game. Idea that your leveled up character goes down beacuse of a dice roll is flustrating. But As a player of original Warhammer Fantasy Battles and mordheim i can only say they just stick to the rules. But at some point you learn like Radowid (wither 3) says you learn to loose your pawns. Therefore my review is a little biased. Fact that developers forfeit the game is not nice. Unfortunately quite common with Warhammer "digital" games. Therefore review is solely personal and accepts opposite views.

Another game ruined by RNG

This game has some potentially forgiveable flaws, like remainders of its console past (the camera, controls and UI are useable at best with mouse and keyboard) or enemy turns that take forever, but the real problem is that it's just frustratingly hard, and not in a challenging way that makes you want to get better, but in the random "here take this sequence of 10 critical hits in a row" way that you can't really do anything against. At times it seems like the game has a killswitch or something, and when it's engaged, your warband will simply be killed, no matter what you try. But that's not all. I mean, you regroup and try another mission, right? Might have better luck then. The problem is, the enemy stole your equipment when you lost, and half of your warriors suffered serious injuries that not only make them unable to join any mission for x days, but also come with permanent stat decreases, if they didn't just outright die. Oh and if you can take all that, well, injuries also come with an additional gold cost for treatment. HOW FUN. Oh, yeah, you also can't load an older game to offset those bullshit 10 sequence crits, because the game has only 1 save slot per warband and automatically updates it every action that happens. It's a shame, though, because the core gameplay is solid and setting/atmosphere are great.

Valkyrie Chronicle fans will like this

I did like Valkyrie Chronicles and its gamplay, it was quite unique. Now there is another game with similar gameplay: Mordheim! Good atmosphere and great ingame tactics. The peresentation of the story is rather weak, but the gameplay is very engaging. Tis game is not an easy one but it feels grest to overcome its difficulties (like in dark souls, but this is turn base strategy of course). Love the fact that units can be mutilated and you have to live with the consequences.
