Welcome to Mordheim: City of the Damned!

Play the first video game adaptation of Games Workshop's tabletop game Mordheim. Set in the Warhammer World's decimated Empire city, Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based tactical game where you lead warbands into bloody and lethal skirmishes. The game blends RPG elements, fast-paced tactical combat and intricate unit customization in a time wrought by chaos and rivalry where only the strongest survive.

After a twin tailed comet crashed on Mordheim, the City of the Damned turned into a terrifying battlefield where rival warbands fight fiercely for the control of key neighborhoods, looking for glory and fortune by acquiring the very valuable Wyrdstone fragments.

Choose from iconic Mordheim warbands and lead your troops in epic battles where fame and glory await. Your strategy will definitely be your best ally! Visit the four corners of the City of the Damned to complete multiple missions in the solo campaign.

A decent if janky experiences

I quit enjoy mordheim. The setting is well executed and both the warbands themselves and the city in which they fight are dripping in atmosphere. Sound Design is also decent, but at times a bit bland. The gameplay is the main draw of the game and is split into two sections. The first is the meta progression part, where you manage abilities, equipment and ship of the wyrdstone you collect to shadowy benefactors in return for monetary support. This part is well executed, but the level of customization available to the player can be a bit overwhelming especially in the beginning, but do lead to the game having a lot of depth. The other, far more time consuming, part of the game is the skirmishes in the ruined city. These all have the same base objectives, find and then proceed to beat the snot out of the opponent. The variety comes from facing different warbands, in different parts of the city and with varying secondary objectives. The actual fights are turn based and every action is decided based on dicerolls. The movement however is free roaming. This leads to a lot getting stuck on terrain or being unable to engage an enemy. Players can usually deal with this, but the AI really struggles. The game is complex and the levels are difficult to travers, the AI can’t really deal with it. It is not unusual in my experience to 1-3 enemies stuck somewhere, not actually participating in the fight. To compensate the AI gets alot of buffs on the higher difficulties, but is nice enough to show you exactly what kind of buff it got. Lastly the game have a wound system. It’s quite complex and means your guys (or gals or monster or cute ratpeople) might lose an arm or a leg, even die in some unlucky cases. This can really hit hard, but the system is usually quite forgiving. The game would have been lesser without it and helps keep the tension. Overall a decent game. It is well worth a try if you can get past the initial steep learning curve.

TEST if you like this game right here!

Answer me this: If an attacker has a 80 % hit chance and the defender has a 40 % chance to parry. How high is the chance, that the attacker misses 3 conscutive times? Here is a hint: a) About 10 % b) About 2 % c) About 20% d) About 15 % e) About 5 % The answer is at the end. Most negative reviews have their origin from a simple circumstance. Human brains suck at probability assumptions. We do not memorize all the results and we focus on outliers. This happens to all games that use a RNG (Battle Brothers, X-Com, Blood Bowl etc. etc. etc.) "How can it happen, that i miss all the time with an 80 % to hit chance and the AI gets one crit after the other?". The RNG in this game works as intended and you, if you play it smart, will soon have no problem winning same level encounters without a single loss. The games fault is, that it is overloaded with unintuitive and unexplained mechanics (this makes it only 4 stars out of 5). *************** Answer = c) Chance to hit something = 80 % Chance to miss = 20 % Chance to NOT get parried = 60 % Chance to hit the enemy is: 0.8 * 0.6 = 0.48 So the chance to miss is 52 % Chance to miss the three times in a row is: 0.52 * 0.52 * 0.52 = 0.14 In a random encounter with 10 vs 10 there will be a lot of hitting and missing (even though the enemy gets usually just 1 parry.) But 3 misses in a row will happen sometimes in nearly every or every second encounter. So, should you get this game? Only if you neglected EVERY answer and chose: F) For "F" you with your stupid mathematics. I SHALL TAKE MY MIGHTY WAR HAMMER AND SMASH THE HERETIC AND PURGE THE ABOMINATION! FOR THE EMPEROR !! Congratulations, you are a complete nerd and have everything what it takes to master this game.

The game I have played the most ( >300h)

10/10 when you play the random encounters. 1/10 when you play the scripted scenarios. If you love turn-based RNG team combat, and if you are zen enough to wait on a locked screen while enemies you can't see play their turn slower than you do, then hellish Mordheim will be your cruel paradise.

Great tactical battles game

I wasn't familiar with tabletop original. So decided to give it a go just judging by screenshots and general description. In the end this game is amazing: * the setting of lost city * tons of tactical decisions to make. From warband composition to fights and looting. * injury system adds some tension each time your fighter is taken out of combat. At first there was some grudge against RNG but as I progressed and learned mechanics it's totally manageable. First warband was a sacrifice to learning: lots of dead skaven and those who survived ended up somewhat messed up(both in abilities and body parts) .

Not good

As a huge tabletop fan of Mordheim, I bought this game years ago on Steam. It's not good. The controls are super janky and it's hard to see where you need to go or what you need to collect. It doesn't capture the feel of the tabletop game at all. And as a turn based game, it's not nearly as good as the grid based games like X-Com. Turns consist of trial and error trying to figure where you can move, and where you can't. Back up, move forward, back up, move forward. And trying to find wyrdstone is an exercise in frustration as well.
