There’s only 3 weeks left before prom and you haven’t got a date yet..and you’re a monster. But that’s okay ‘cause at your high-school everyone else is too! These are the stepping stones into the world of Monster Prom, a one-to-four player competitive dating sim that has you thinking: I never knew I was into that!

Choose your own adventure and get all the way to your special monster’s heart before anyone else does, take personality quizzes to determine your stats, get into all kinds of funny and absurd situations to seduce your sweetheart and find out more about yourself than you or your friends ever knew.

Play to your strengths to earn better rewards, discover and unlock items that boost your chances at your favourite fiend’s fondness and fight the good fight all in the name of the thing high-schoolers dream of: not going to the prom alone.

Grab up to three friends or play by yourself, enjoy the beautiful art, the witty dialogue and be prepared to make hard choices because at the end of the cruel, cut-throat world of Monster Prom there are only two types of people: lovers and losers. Being a monster is hard, but getting a date for prom is even harder!

Competitive dating sim
Nothing makes the heart grow fonder than a little competition. Set your gaze on one of the sweethearts, but if you share your romantic tastes with your friends, be ready for some stiff competition.

Fantastically funny writing
All's fair in love and war, except maybe taking yourself too seriously. Through whimsical, postmodern humor, written by Cory O’Brien, Maggie Herskowitz and Julián Quijano, there is no topic Monster Prom won’t make fun of, including itself.

Gorgeous art
There’s never a dull moment while exploring the beautifully crafted world and characters drawn by Arthur Tien.

1000+ funny and absurd situations and hundreds of events
Get into the groove of the local monster high-school through hundreds of events that will branch into 1000+ possible situations, all with multiple outcomes.

Couch Multiplayer for one-to-four people
Play by yourself, with a significant other or with your favourite group of friends.

Easy to pick up and play
No learning required, just have your heart strings ready for tugging.

Characters easy to fall in love with
With 6 fully fledged lovable classmates at your fingertips, go ahead and meet, pick and find out just what makes them tick.

Monstrously post-modern slice of life
A beautifully developed universe with a diverse cast of characters, all with their own personal fashion, outfits, style and quirks, set in the modern world of love with all the trimmings: selfies, dating apps, d**kpics, raves, emojis and more.

Freedom of choice
Monsters don’t like boys or girls, they like monsters. In Monster Prom the game experience is unaffected by gender or sexual orientation, since finding love is already hard enough.

Funny but ultimately not recommended.

I would recommend waiting for a sale. Game can be funny and had me in good spirits. BUT, when I discovered what it took to win, I decided I wasn't interested anymore. To succeed, you will have to replay the game a number of times for each potential prom date until you figure out what you need stat-wize to succeed. The game does not tell you. It doesn't even tell you how far off you were when you lose. Polly, the Ghost-girl, for example, likes to party. You can assume this means you'll need a high "Fun" stat. But you'll also need high stats in "Boldness" & "Hearts" and the game does not offer any hint of this. In fact, some game *hints* can be contradictory: Polly mentions an interest in Russian books and you can buy items to help raise your stats. But the Russian book on sale will raise your "Smarts" - a stat that has nothing to do with Polly. Once you get playing and realise that there is very little time and money to do what is necessary to succeed, it can be very frustrating to find yourself wasting one or the other, or both. Overall, unless you short-circuit the normal gameplay experience and look up everything you need to know... or replay multiple times over for each individual prom date, you can't win. And when you do realise what is required, you'll find yourself focusing on stats rather than enjoying the humorous encounters, which is a shame and robs the game of what makes it fun.

Sultry spookums, oh my!

Monster Prom is a great ride. A fun game to play on your own, with a buddy, or - my favourite - as a party game. The art is charming, and the writing is hilarious - somehow being both witty and (occasionally) memetastic at the same time, but never cringey. It doesn't hold back on anything, which makes for a refreshing, charming, madcap experience. Don't let the cute graphics fool you into thinking this is a game for kids - it is *very* adult, with plenty of references to sex, drugs, violence, and crass humour if you like that kind of thing. Kind of like a cross between Conker's Bad Fur Day's crassness, Deadpool's adult humour, and Drawn Together's sexual overtness. If that hasn't scared you off, you'd probably like to know about the gameplay. It's like a dating sim on crack - with stat raising, choice making, and love interest chasing. As the majority of the action happens through text, this means there's a large amount of text to read. And, typical of dating sims, the text is supplemented by character sprites with changing expresions, and the occasional mini illustration of what's happening (mostly used for classtime events and endings). Primarily though, you'll be reading through this one. Chasing your love interest can be difficult, as they each have specific stat and item requirements, some more challenging than others. There are secret endings too, some needing careful stat management and guide consultation and (occasionally) offerings and prayers to RNGesus. My recommendation? If you like adult humour, get this game. Then play it blind for your first time - by yourself or with others, either is fun. Then play it blind a second time - this time armed with knowledge of how the game works - and see how far you can get with your chosen beau. THEN go consulting guides. You'll likely get a good 2-3 playthroughs before you start seeing a lot of event repeats, too, so there's plenty of content to keep you amused while playing blind. 11/10 would Vera again

Exactly what I hoped for, and more!

[SPOILER FREE] Let me just start with the two most important things for me when it comes to games: - it's fun! - The developers clearly enjoyed creating the game. (Lot of love poured into it) Is this game for everybody? Hell no. But it's easy to judge whether or not you'd enjoy this type of game or not, just look at the screenshots, and the first lines of the description. I love that the game doesn't want to waste your time, and that it doesn't want to overstay it's welcome, it achieves these by giving you the choice to select the length of the playtrough (30-60 mins), also I'm a really slow reader yet this game made me read fast, and do things quick by having a great fast paced soundtrack and a fast paced text scrolling (not sure if this is the right word, but I mean in which rate the text appears, it doesn't actually scroll out of screen or anything like that, so you can actually read it slowly if you so desire). And the combination of these things really made for an enjoyable bite sized experience that you can repeat over and over again, as the game offers a lot of different choices/characters/endings. The over presentation is great, the art is gorgeous and the writing is just what you'd expect it to be, it feels like everything was tailored to one goal to have fun. Not to overthink things, just plainly have fun and enjoy what the game has to offer. So yeah for me this game was totally worth it, I'm enjoying it a lot, and if you think you'd enjoy something like this as well, all I can say is: Don't worry, the game exactly what it looks like, and more! :) I hope this review was at least somewhat useful, but keep in mind this was just one random guys thoughts about the game. Bonus: The game has multiplayer support, both online and offline. I'm someone who loves playing with others, and it's such a nice surprise seeing this type of game offering multiplayer option as well. Can't wait to have some fun playing Monster Prom over the holidays with my friend ^^

Great Humour but Poor Randomness

Monster Prom has one major positive going for it but it is hampered by one equally major negative. The humour is some of the best I have ever seen in a game. I loved the dialogue; the choices; and the events that happen in game. What I couldn’t stand was the randomness of the game. I have done two play throughs of the game and tried to romance a different character each time and each time got rejected even though many of my interactions with that character were positive leading up to prom and I had high stats in areas they liked. The game does a very poor job letting you know where you stand with potential dates. Most of what I know about where to find them or what they like had to be guessed based on what little info you’re given and even then didn’t make sense with some of the reactions you get. It all seemed so random each time I played and not in a fun way. The art was great. The music and sound effects were all right but nothing special. I played Monster Prom on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any spelling issues or bugs. There were no graphics options. Alt-Tab didn’t work. There was no save system at all. Each play through is pretty quick but this is still a terrible option for a game with as many choices as you make. Graphics Engine: Unity Input Used: Keyboard and Mouse Disk Space Used: 3.0 GB GPU Usage: 5-12 % VRAM Usage: 1008-1072 MB CPU Usage: 2-5 % RAM Usage: 2.3 GB Overall my love for what Monster Prom did right was nowhere near my hate for what I didn’t like about it. I paid $5.39 CAD for it and while that is a fine price for the amount of content and replayability it didn’t make the game more enjoyable. I finished my first play through in 29 minutes and my second in 26 minutes. My Score: 4.5/10 My System: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X | 16GB DDR4-3000 CL15 | MSI RX 580 8GB Gaming X | Mesa 21.0.3 | Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB | Manjaro 21.0.5 | Mate 1.24.1 | Kernel 5.12.2-1-MANJARO

Shamazing

LOVE this game. I own the Steam version, and enjoyed being able to get the achievements. The character development, insane scenarios, and enjoyable online experience make for an all around great game. There are two Discord channels available for games, art, and chats as well. If MP is ever rated, it will have a Mature rating. I wouldn't recommend gifting this to your five year old grandchild. Both Discord channels have had to change their status to NSFW/18+, for reference.
