Starts out strong and ends weakly
This game had some much promise in the early going, hitting on the exact themes I love: a strange alien world full of mysteries, exploration, and problem solving. And in the early going, it was a good time. The atmosphere was great: a barren, desolate planet that had never been trod on before. The puzzles throughout the game were very good, with a fair number of logic puzzles that fit sensibly within the world, although a few here and there were slightly marred by confusing explanations. The visuals were nice, as was the audio design, although the voice acting was iffy at best. As the mystery deepened, I became more intrigued and wanted to understand it all. But about 2/3 of the way through the game, the story got almost too convoluted and stopped making sense. And then the final act basically flushed the whole thing down the toilet, making it essentially meaningless and a different story entirely. I wanted to love this game, and in the early going, I mostly did. But it fumbled the conclusion so badly that it really left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not going to bomb it down to a one-star review, although I'm tempted, because I did truly enjoy my time playing it most of the way through. But it was extremely disappointing. I just wish I could find a game with this setting that stays true to itself for once.
