Classic and fantastic
One of the best games of all time. On the harder side and worth solving without clues. Funny and inventive.

Weak and convoluted
The remake graphics makes it playable, but the story is just so bland, the ending is the biggest letdown of all. The puzzles are so bad that you mostly end up cycling through all available scenes and use everything with everything because it's so convoluted. Big step down from the first game, despite having more aesthetically pleasing Special Edition Graphics than the first game.

Acceptable if you're after millenial
Monkey Island II is my favorite game from when i was kid, so i think i could give some honest opinion here. If you're a fan of old school games, and you played with them back in the days then this game is better avoided as all the others "remakes" ( or "special edition" "enhanced edition" and so on and so on) First I think having the characters speaking breaks most of the original vibe, but then, voices are even quite well chosen, but they act terrible. Second: the cartoonish graphic i think it's not fitting, if you look the original games the design was realistic, and that was the point, it was a parody, so it had to look like a real pirate game. But after all the various abominations that came after (monkey 3, tales from MI and so on) i guess we shouldn't be surprised. Still, in THIS one it's not even so bad. And Third: yeah, as other stated already, the 'brilliant' new inventory/command system is pretty useless. The original one was ok, and there was actually no need for this new version, which most of the cases makes quick things harder instead easier. In the end, if you're a guy of the late generations and play with an old adventure game feels like play with something from the paleolithic, but you still want to try these old classics, then this is surely a good choice. Otherwise, wasted money. On side note, some musics have been remade pretty well, if i must say, too bad many times they got stuck if you change areas too fast so...

A great sequel that falls flat...
Monkey Island 2 is a good sequel in many ways; gameplay-wise, more environments, interesting new characters and some old faces, there's more to explore and it doesn't feel as linear as the first game. But there ends the good stuff. The story starts out well, Guybrush trying to find this treasure and we follow him on this adventure. After that it gets messy, confusing and straight out obvious it's not going to lead to any conclusion what so ever. What is the Big Whoop? Well we'll never find out, that's one issue. The ending feels... not thought through. A cliffhanger where we right before that watched some weird Star Wars mock scene... it felt like they were trying too hard to top the first game and failed. It's still a good game however and I do recommend it. Just... take the ending with a grain of salt.
