Excellent game. Excellent remake.
If for some reason you haven't played the original game, then stop reading and buy this. It's one of the best games ever made. It's hilarious, it has beautiful artkwork and even though it's quite linear (not so as its predecessor, but still), is still appealing enough to be replayable. Now, if you've played the original and want to know if this remake is worth it, then yes, it definitely is. Now, "remake" is possibly the wrong word here, this is more of a "remaster". Besides improved graphics, voice acting added (with the voice cast of Curse of Monkey Island!), and a slightly different control scheme, it's still practically the exact same game from 1990. Although it fares better than the Secret of Monkey Island remake. The art style is improved from the SOMI remake, and Guybrush doesn't look so silly now. The animations are better too. While the previous remake seemed content with painting over the old graphics, this one adds new frames, and it all looks smoother. The new control scheme is simillar to the SCUMM 3D from Curse, which makes it more appealing too (plus, now you can easily play with a Xbox 360 gamepad, if you wish). Voice acting, of course, is top notch, and the soundtrack has been revamped. There's also ambient sound added too, which gives more life to the world. Unlike the previous remake, this offers something new: commentary by the creators, which can be activated at certain areas and it's very good. In fact, the bad thing about it is that there's too little. There's also an unlockable art gallery. There's a hint system added as well, though it's useless if you've played the game before. You can, at any time, change the visual style between the new and the classic. And, unlike in the SOMI remake, you can listen to the voice acting with the old style. The SOMI remake was nice, but it had some glaring faults. This one solves them all and even improves the original game with added extras. You can't go wrong with this game.
