Minit

This game has a cute and charming artstyle and atmosphere. It starts of quite strong, with multiple directions open at the start, each leading to multiple puzzles. The time limit adds a fitting sense of tension and urgency. That however, is all the good I can say about this game. I played it taking turns with my girlfriend, so we were two brains coming up with puzzle solutions together, having a clear advantage compared to most players. Most puzzle hints are rather cryptic, but we always figured them out, even if we had to put it down for a week in between. And that's a good thing, after all puzzles should be challenging. After a while though, we were met with a puzzle we couldn't solve even after a week. When we finally did decide to look up the solution, we were at the same time glad we did - as we would've never figured out the solution - and disappointed - because the solution didn't make any sense whatsoever; we couldn't even find an explanation on how you're supposed to figure it out online, just lackluster speculation. This happened a second time, in the exact same way. After about two thirds or more of the game, we were stumped a third time, but in this instance we didn't even bother looking up the solution and haven't touched the game in a year. Thinking about it now just gets me annoyed.

I'm proud of developers who insist on keeping their experimental designs short and sweet. Those behind Minit belong in this group too. The unique mechanic here - every life is on a 60 second timer - is not as punishing as you might initially think since there is no death penalty and you permanently unlock abilities and additional starting points through play. You'll often be within sight of areas you won't be able to reach until you've accomplished other feats. The time limit means level design density is high and you're rarely backtracking for long. If you ever fear you've not been efficient enough, you can press a button to voluntarily die and start back at home with a fresh counter. An afternoon or evening will probably suffice for this one. It's more of a puzzler than a twitch.

Great idea and decent execution. Creators of Minit could expand scope of their game but what we got is still enjoyable.

Without making any spoilers, this game has certainly a lot of clever design ideas on it, making it a fast paced "puzzle" game with zelda-like action. I just got stuck in a couple of situations, but it's not a difficult title. Perfect for speedrunners and clever humor lovers. The only problem is that for me it was a little bit short, but it was worth it.

The game's pretty short, as one might expect from a game like this but each minit counts. A nice selection of items and collectibles throughout, a vegan setting and a timer/death counter really makes the game more enjoyable though small in its overall depth. The final boss was a bit awkward and the sounds/music were too but the rest of the game had a great soundtrack to compliment your wild journey to remove that stupid curse. The characters and dialogue were interesting and unique which really draws in the player and makes you remember the encounters like the talking fish that's fine without water and the old man by the light house that takes forever to talk to name a few. Overall a great indie game, successor to classic zelda titles
