A stylish game marred by poor controls.

A dark and gritty 70's style crime story is marred by poor controls. The problem is the player -- whether on foot or in a vehicle -- seems to have poor footing. While forgivable in a vehicle, for a game very dependent on cover shooting Piero's lack of any ability to actually stick to cover sticks out like a sore thumb. This is compounded by the fact that his movement doesn't seem natural -- he seems to move too quickly for the speed of his animation, and when trying to take evasive action he feels completely out of control. You might want to duck behind cover but instead he rolls. If in a stationary position via holding SPACE and he may/may not roll, even while mashing movement keys repeatedly. The only thing that seems sure is that if you're moving about, he WILL roll. Making matters worse is the inability to remap anything, which is pretty poor for any PC game. There is stealth in the game but it's extremely primitive. The only noise made seems to be dependent on firing a gun. Line of sight isn't always clear; thankfully there's only one stealth mission and it's short. The biggest letdown is the final sections of the game which lack much in the way of clever tricks to break up the monotony of what becomes pure run-and-gun with little opportunity for stealth or tactics. The game starts very strong too, all the more the pity. Story-wise, it's dark and gritty. If that's not your cup of tea, give the game a miss. If you enjoy a grim tale of betrayal and lies without any heroes... then it's worth watching. Overall not a bad game but not one that would keep me coming back.

70s poliziottesco - interesting but...

Italian cinema contributed many genres and subgenres to the history of the silver screen, especially in the 60s and 70s: maybe you already knew about "spaghetti western" and "giallo". "Poliziottesco" is far less known outside Italy and was a peculiar mix of french noir, gangster movie and procedural police flick - a mix that you could not find anywhere else. Milanoir takes heavily from that source and does so with a lo-fi, visually interesting approach: cool bad guys (and gals), dark alleys, rats, jackets, scooters, shootouts on the roofs, everything oozes style. Gameplay-side, Hotline Miami and Not a Hero are the ones that come to mind first, but Milanoir is sufficingly different from both to stand on its own merit. Unfortunately, all this goodness is heavily sabotaged by the controls: with a joypad, the dual stick system will have you struggle to beat even the first boss; and no much better luck with mouse and keyboard. Difficulty in aiming where you want, input lag, overall clunkiness are the norm here... better customisation and the option to have simplified controls were probably the way to go. TL;DR: graphics, music and atmosphere are what really stands out here, but the control scheme damages this game far beyond the sum of its positive elements.

Dragged down by its control scheme.

A twin-stick control scheme is something that has existed for multiple years now, both on consoles and PC. In this case, the controls with mouse and keyboard make the game almost unplayable: the crosshair used for aiming does not follow your mouse, but mantains a position relative to the player character. Moving the mouse moves this relative position only. This means that if you keep your mouse still ans move left with the character, the crosshair will move left as well. The controls have bees like this since I tried the game during an event in Milan, where I gave the same feedback. Seems that the devs and testers did not identify this as a problem. Unfortunately the game is marred by these control issues, and I do not recommend playing it until the problems are fixed.

Bad controls

Can't change keyboard controls. Unplayable on azerty. Rookie mistake that should have been easy to avoid.

Controls FRUSTRATING

Would be a great game if the controls were not so frustrating.
