Might and Magic VIII

I had played all of the games in the series to come before this, which I loved, so when I got to play this one it was with an "at last, another installment" attitude. I really wish the game was longer, and harder. Ideally, it should have a couple difficulty settings to choose from, like 4+5 had. This game is great, but if you really know how to play Might and Magic it's likely to be very easy. The soundtrack is superb, maybe the best of the series, and the engine runs the best between 6-8. The mapping notes is really well done, with you being able to type in your own notes on top of great notes the game gives you. The game has a lot of replayability, more than you'd expect even from this series in fact. This is because you make only one character, so you will naturally wonder what it would be like to play it with a different one, again and again. In as far as the difficulty goes, because it's easy (after you get good at it), you can more reasonably play it with a small party. You control the difficulty, thus. The story and the locales are very enjoyable, with several interesting towns and the elemental planes have their own levels with dungeons.

Stagnation

— The setting of Jadame paints the world of Might & Magic with fresh colors. Visiting Minotaur cities and troll villages feels rather exotic, even by today’s RPG standards. But the story itself feels rather weak in comparison with two of the game’s predecessors. — Same sprite figures, same poor textures, same low polygonal forts, and mountains, same very limited draw distance. Mind you, that Might & Magic VIII was released the same year as Deus Ex. — Up to five characters may be in the player’s party, but only one of them can be created at the beginning of the game. In fact, you have only this one hero, and all the rest are hirelings, you meet along the way. — Class special abilities and an option to hire damn dragons to the party make the game ferociously imbalanced, and the combat turns into unchallenging grind too early in the game (relatively to previous games in the series). — Some non-combat challenges have been added into the game: like platforming sections, for example. Jump over the chasm here, jump onto the moving platform there, that sort of stuff. It just that the jump mechanics have remained here the same since Might & Magic VI, and it was used there just to save your party from occasionally getting stuck between the textures. So yeah, those platforming sections are quite a pain in the ass. — The interface have been renovated, mostly through getting rid of the side panel. It made it somewhat cleaner looking. — You can play Acromage in the taverns, and there is no boss fight in the end: just an old-school puzzle to solve. And there’s pretty much everything new you can tell about Might & Magic VIII. The rest of the game systems remained unchanged. So on the dawn of the new millennium, Might & Magic series has been showing some vicious signs of stagnation.

Great game

Probablz my favorite from the serie. I know majority of people prefer VII or VI, but in my opinion this one is the best. Definitly could recomend to any fan of RPG. The fighting system is fun, the music amazing and the graphic while old has a charm. The weakest part is the story.

Favorite game

This is my favorite game of all time. I especially like the dragons & always add them to my party. But I have been having trouble getting it to work in the latest versions of Windows.

really cool game if you are patient and ;like turn based adventure. when i learned i could transform into a lich i was pumped. when i did the quest to achieve this goal i was godlike in this game. imploding ancient wyrms at will was my reward. if you have some time on your hands you will not be disappointed.
