METAL SLUG X

Metal Slug X is just metal slug 2 but an updated version. The Good The graphics are great. Pixel graphics never age to me. The game runs way better than the metal slug 2 port. They updated the colors for some of the assets, I think. The water in one of the levels used to be blue, I think, but they changed it to green. I think it’s just a more colorful game now and it’s better this way. They added some more weapons like a homing missile and an airplane bomb gun, a better laser, and etc. The game is short and can take almost an hour to beat. The game has online multiplayer again, which is great but you need to be signed into gog galaxy to use it. You can turn auto-fire on. It’s a nice needed quality of life option that I appreciate. The game is weirdly random, in that the devs had some great ideas for the game and implemented them, like making your character fat and having that fat character be more powerful but slower. Wacky things like this in the metal slug series has always been great. The Bad This game is the better version of metal slug 2. They should not be selling metal slug 2 on the stores. Even for someone wanting to collect all the versions of the games. I think it’s a waste of money for a customer to buy metal slug 2 when this is offered. The game is called metal slug x. It is so confusing. I don’t know, I think an easier name could have been better like 2+, 2 plus, or 2 super. Something that states that it is metal slug 2 but the updated version of the game. The game still has some slow down. The game still messes with windows by making screens bigger when you tab out. You still cannot record the game with obs when the game is in fullscreen mode. The game has nice ideas but there’s no concrete story happening. I don’t know who these characters are and why they are doing things. Conclusion Metal Slug X is an amazing game and the definitive “metal slug 2” game.

The included unsupported Mac version runs with far, far less lag than Humble Bundle's Metal Slug 2 or any NeoGeo emulation i've tried for the series. (OSX 10.12) The controls don't appear to be changeable -- BUT it seems to be using my key bindings from Humble's MS2, which despite its lag has configurable controls. So i'm not struggling with Z,X,Q,&W for buttons, whew. If the sound falls behind the action (which it will after a while), just pause the game (Tab) and resume -- then the sound is in sync again. What a great game, and this is the best version i've played -- hope to try an arcade machine someday.

The game runs excellently, if you're having a framerate drop contact support and try to figure out what's up, before you decide bashing it in the reviews section. Warning for lovers of the PSX version: this is a port of the arcade version, not the PS1 version that has incredible extras, including mainly the Art Gallery and Combat School with a cute teacher, which are not included in this version. I've only played the latter, which is what I expected to get with this port and one of the reasons I decided to buy it for pc, sadly it's not the case. Otherwise, the game runs perfectly and I will enjoy it when I want to do another run of it. If you're looking to get the main game to play solo on your pc, keyboard or controller, or if you want to play it local or online with a friend, I recommend getting the game without a second thought.

I was very skeptical of getting any version of this series anywhere much less any package deal with the phrase "bad port" in any of the reviews. This port feels pretty decent, maybe not perfect, but I think I'm happy with it so far. Nostolgia and 90s difficulty 'feelz' are through the roof on this one. I hate it but but but I love it too! Beautiful and difficult but rewarding game! Side-scrollers are not even my thing but I always had a special feeling for this series. Fanservice aside, I think this port is pretty fair.

This was the hardest yet funniest version of Metal Slug I've ever played. It's a parody of Independence Day, trust me you'll see.. Reminded me of McBain from the Simpsons takes on the space aliens. It has practically the same controls as the original Metal Slug. You get a variety of four characters with different weapons but you'll be selecting through those characters several times. This was fun and hilarious.
