A Masterpiece
Metal Gear Solid is more than just a game — it’s a piece of gaming history. Even after all these years, its storytelling, atmosphere, and cinematic direction remain unmatched. Hideo Kojima’s vision turned a simple stealth concept into an emotional and intelligent experience. The voice acting, soundtrack, and memorable characters like Solid Snake, Meryl, and Gray Fox still hold up today. The gameplay may feel dated compared to modern standards, but the tension and creativity in every mission make it worth revisiting.

Classic Game, Terrible Port, Great Patch
Metal Gear Solid was a truly iconic game back on the original Playstation and it's great to be able to revisit it once again through this GOG release. This was a very poor port back in the day and not much work has been accomplished in this version which is essentially the same. Thankfully there is a great workaround found here https://www.gog.com/forum/metal_gear_series/mgs_widescreen_solution/post8 thanks to this user - it's a bit more work than the remarkable V's fix from MGS2 and requires a couple of downloads plus architecture changes but if you follow the steps carefully, the game will work even at 21:9 which is just insane! The game itself is still fantastic and was way ahead of its time with a superb world and intriguing narrative. It does feel a bit dated in places but it's still fantastic to experience once again especially at such an attractive price.
