Description
Two stories, two main characters, one epic experience: in Memoria, players travel through different time periods, while following two distinct protagonists: Sadja, a southern princess who wants to be a war hero, and Geron, a bird catcher who wants to lift a curse from his girlfriend. The game combines point & click gameplay with unique magic skills. Sadja, a Southern princess, has an unstoppable desire to become the greatest hero in history – by joining and succeeding in the biggest war Aventuria has ever seen: The war of the Mages, fought in the middle of an uninhabitable desert.

Bird catcher Geron lives almost 450 years after the Great War. Geron’s eternal love, Nuri, has been turned into a crow by an evil curse. To give her back her human form, Geron needs the help of the mysterious merchant Fahi, who has magical powers. But Fahi is only willing to help Geron if he agrees to solve a puzzle which Fahi has seen in his dreams. The quest for answers soon leads to a chain of events that connects both Sadja's and Geron's stories, threatening to turn the present into a grim reflection of a long forgotten past.

Memoria combines classic point & click adventure gameplay with the features of The Dark Eye, one of the most successful RPG universes known in the fantasy world. Point & click adventure game puzzles get a unique twist by adding magical features – and a wise, talking staff. Over eight chapters, players control both Sadja’s and Geron’s fates, involuntarily interacting with each other and bridging over 500 years of time. Each chapter in Memoria features opulent graphics, epic locations, a thrilling fantasy crime story and a unique puzzle design that differs from chapter to chapter.

Please note that German language is not available in this version!
  • Epic fantasy soundtrack and high quality voiceover to draw you deep into the game.
  • Dive into the world of The Dark Eye, and explore mystical places such as Draconia, an ancient temple built by dragons.
  • Follow the story of two unique characters through two different time periods.
  • Beautifully hand-drawn 2D backgrounds and high quality 3D game characters.
  • From the creator of The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, The Whispered World and Deponia.

Beautiful!

Let's get something straight right off the bat: The strong suit of this title is the storytelling! It's brilliant! It's really up there with the very best. I might be a bit biased because I like the dark eye setting - a lot. In fact, I like it better than D&D, the Witcher or even LOTR as a world to play in. However, with so much emphasis on setting and story I was a bit disappointed to find the German (=original) language edition missing on GOG. Hence, the missing star to a perfect 5 here. I found and ran a 3rd party patch which converted the game to German, but come on GOG, you're better than that! Now that I got this most important bit out of the way, a few brief remarks on other things: The artwork is beautiful but animations are a bit stiff and sometimes I even thought there are small mistakes in scale or perspective. Voice acting is mostly good but here too I guess there's some potential for improvement. I'm really no art critic but it feels a bit lower grade in the craft department than some of the competition. This was in no way putting me off but I can imagine it might be more of a problem for people who have higher expectations in this regard. I didn't pay too much attention to the soundtrack to be honest, but whenever I did, I found it to be quite good actually. Also, the puzzles were mostly spot-on for my skill level which made playing through a very pleasant experience. I went through this in a couple of days but I wouldn't say it's short as I played relatively long hours - which, again, is a compliment to the story that got me absolutely hooked! Bottom line: Very highly recommended if you like a good story above everything else and if you are a reasonably skilled adventure gamer (or make up for a lack of it with sheer patience & enthusiasm).

Recommended-Three stars mean a good game

This game is vastly superior to its predecessor. Logical thinking works much better here. I gave Chains of Satinav a harsh review after finishing it, but this game redeemed Daedalic in my eyes. Three stars might seem like not much. But four stars is for very good games since five stars I save for legends. To get four stars, character models and animation would need to improve a bit more, just like the voice acting. The main characters would also need to be a bit more likable. There are interesting characters along the way, so no worries. Also, this game could be more complex, with better humor and a bit more spectacular outcomes of your solutions. Nevertheless, this game is superior to many revered classics in some of the puzzle aspects. Just lacks some of the magic they possessed. It is good though. Nice relaxing play. I recommend it to other adventure lovers.

Worth your time

Memoria is a well made adventure game and is a good. The game is beautiful and well voice acted (except for the dreadful performance of a boy in the end-sequence, who is clearly reading his lines). The puzzles are fair, the game is exactly the right length and there are 2 possible endings. It also introduces new game elements, like a new spell that can send images to a person based on objects you see in the room. Unfortunately you only get to use this mechanic a few times, which seems like missed potential. There are some parts that I enjoyed less, like the maze. Fortunately you can skip the maze, but it does feel like cheating. After running in circles for an hour however, you see the added merit of the button though. Another issue I had was the pacing of the game. Some parts pass too quickly and some parts seem to drag forever. For instance, there is this part with a huge spider web, but I found out the solution to the puzzle before I even saw there was a big freaking spider staring at me! The parts in the past are in general way more interesting than the ones in the "present" (Geron's timeline). The "present timeline" drags a lot in the beginning and your motivation (to save the most annoying character in the game) is not enough motivation for me. In short; if you like adventure gaming and liked the previous part, buy this game, because it is worth your time.

Best scenario/Bit of frustrating puzzles

The quest takes part in Andergast after the first game Dark Eye: Chais of Satinav. The main interesting thing about the story that the main part keeps continuing in the past. And the story is not yet finished. And you need to make this story happen. The main riddle about the scarab you will understand fully only after the last cut-scene. Don't even try. If you still don't get it, ask youself: who from the characters looks like a scarab? What's strange: German game wihout German sounding. What's frustrating: puzzle about statues and Nuri in the beginning which is not logical enough. You just need to select hardest variant from all of them but it's not really logical quest but clicking the combinations one. Puzzle with floating crystals and fighting with main enemy. And with objects in the room also in in this part of game. I checked the solution to the game and still don't get this puzzle. It's not Enstein principe like a puzzle with masks of the elements and naming them. I tried to figure out about allowing objects to be near and only figured out that on the upper floor torch is always on the left and it can't be near nothing. And the number of possible solutions varies to 9 I guess and it's not logical but looks like you just need to freakin' click all the possible solutions. Her voice is slow which makes this room extra frustrating. Also sending memories to amazons was frustrating but colorful and looked like innovation.

Touching game

The game is touching, the puzzles are mostly logical (there was one near the end of the game were clearly story got more important than logic). It's really a nice game, but if you can play it in German, the voice acting is much better and makes the characters so much more likeable (just like in some other Daedelic games)
