New mechs are nice; Story's a hot mess

The questline is set after the events of the main story, and the difficulty feels appropriate. I found the missions to be lacking compared to the other DLC questlines; Many times I had to try the mission to figure out which mechs would suit it, something I hadn't had a problem with previously since the DLC mission director usually suggested the general tools you needed to run them. The DLC missions also have trouble telling you whether you're capable of extracting right after objective completion or if you need to kill everything first. One particular mission supposedly tasks you with defending dropships as they take off in sequence, but in reality is little more than window dressing for the usual waves of enemy lances since they don't bother actually attacking the dropships; However, most missions with unique conditions actually work. Like the Rasalhague DLC, you're attached to a great house military but it usually doesn't feel like it. The missions in which it does, are fun, but most of the time you're fighting by yourself. One mission tasks you with taking an entire city by yourself, something you had an extra lance for help with in the Kestrel Lancers DLC. The pilots you supposed to be fighting against might be LCAF/AFFS in the lore but their livery and dialogue suggest they come from all over the inner sphere, including the Draconis Combine (Which during the questline you are currently allied with), which I assume is a bug? Like the Rasalhague DLC, one of the new music tracks is a stinker but the others are good. They're not released as of me writing this so I don't know their names. The six 'Otomo' mech variants are all hero mechs, most of which are gifted to you during the DLC and all of which have unique "greebles" added on to them. They're pretty useful. The longbow is an 85 ton missle boat, and plays like the rest of the missile boats but with more armor. TL;DR the new mechs are good, missions are a hot mess, I'd wait for a discount.

The right idea done lackluster

-The best part about this DLC is the ability to adjust difficultly settings: This includes adjusting the enemy's accuracy, and lethality(aka aiming for weakened components), artillery barrage rate, how much for storage, upkeep, repair time, repair cost, and the ability to adjust penalties for over-tonnage and over-tonnage salvage Having these options being adjustable REALLY can make the difference. I would advise even more adjustable options for the game. These difficulty options make many other mods not needed anymore, i don't know how anyone could withstand the enemy having their accuracy and lethality both being set to 5, you would die so fast - The Longbow and new variants of other mechs are nice, but some of the new variant choices aren't worthwhile for the most part. There are so many other mechs that need new variants or hero version, hel the game needs more Inner Sphere mechs than just adding the Longbow. - Now to the big part of this DLC, the new campaign and story: Did you want to fight for the Draconis Combine? Did you want to fight alongside proud Japanese warriors of House Kurita as they battle FedCom? Well too bad because all you will be fighting besides is characterless nonJapanese. Now I know Kurita has more than just Japanese citizens, with the Draconis Combine being mostly Japanese and the rest European descent, but when you fight for the Combine you expect the classical Japanese samurai type warriors right out of an old movie. The beginning starts promising with Comstar threatening you to fight for Kurita to "keep the balance" and the first section of the Gambit feels pretty solid, but not once do you get that samurai style experience. about 1/4 the way through you then fight with an arabic unit as they attack the German/English/French/etc FedCom all in the name of the Japanese Combine? especially while you attack civilians and they portray FedCom as cowards My advice, play the DLC campaign once, then skip it when you replay the game
