Description
As vast alien mining cities suck the power and minerals from every major metropolis on Earth simultaneously, time is of the essence as millions of civilians are expiring by the second.

Using your stealth parachute and the now infamous "Zooming" head-mounted sniper weapon, your task is to slip in undetected from the sky, seek out and remove the alien leader by any means. Fully reactive “smart enemies” think, listen and communicate in a calculated assault on your life. Think fast and act faster against the most sophisticated artificial enemy intelligence of its time.

The main objective of the game is to basically shoot everything that moves and everything means every alien you will come across. The one and only way to stop the alien invasion is to kill'em all by any means necessary, such as the smallest nuclear bomb, surfboard-like jet or bomber plane. Your goal is simple - repulse the alien invasion and save the Earth... almost single handedly.
  • One of the greatest and most memorable action games of all time
  • Fun and addictive gameplay, filled with humor - a trademark of games by Shiny Entertainment
  • To this day no one really knows what “MDK” actually stands for...

MDK2 better

I have played MDK2 first before this prequel and I don't understand why this game is so praised. It might have been impressive back then, but nowadays it has it's flaws, and many of them. Because the default keybard layout is messy, it took a long time for me to adjust the controls so I could get along with it. The game has ZERO information of saving system with F2 which is not acceptable at all. There are some platforming scenes which requires Kurt to reach platforms too far away from each other. It's just impossible to reach those platforms by gliding because Kurt lose altitude way too fast with his parachute. Yes, with the sniper scope you can shoot distant enemies, but you cannot tell do you actually hit your targets, do you cause any damage and how much. There's a health bar for enemies which is not displayed while in sniper mode for some reason? Besides, all enemies look pretty much the same having nothing personality or such. But the worst thing is there is NO story at all. No intro, no character introductions (without MDK2 I wouldn't even know character names...), no storytelling, no dialogue, no epilogue... just nothing. Just a series of running and shooting sequences and then the game just ends like that. So unsatifying and thus weak replay value. At least the game has it's own unique visual style, huge seamless levels, absurb moments and some funny suprises. But I still prefer MDK2 over this one anytime.

Oh man...

Nevermind the klunky controls. The game lags hard when you're at "larger" spaces. You're required to make a precise jump and land on some platform but it's near impossible at ~2FPS.

Don't bother, get MDK2 instead

Couldn't even get this to run, and GoG's reply of no refunds certainly isn't helpful if they can't get the game to run. MDK2 works great, I highly suggest you get that instead, instead of taking a risk that this won't work, unless you enjoy gambling. Cain

If you enjoy being stuck without clues.

A game that drops you into the action without bothering to introduce the player character, the world, the conflict or the opponents. Half a level (?) later you're stuck with nowhere left to go. Yes, there's a door, with the nuclear symbol on it. That helps me about as much as writing "door" on it, given that there are no nukes to be found anywhere — just an empty level with a few respawning enemies. I thought playing MDK would erase the giant question mark that game has been in my mind since seeing it on the cover of some PC Gamer magazine, but nope — still as blurry as ever. Well, I'm thoroughly bored after backtracking to the very beginning without spotting a single clue as to what to do next, and the handful of pixels that represent the environment aren't exactly beautiful enough to keep me running around aimlessly and endlessly. I don't see what's good about this, and since I don't seem to be allowed to progress any further, this is what I have to base my review on. I can't remember having played any other old game on here that has had trouble with these basic things.

Try, die, repeat ad nauseam...

6 of 5 must play. 5 of 5 great story great gameplay. 4 of 5 great story average gameplay. 3 of 5 average story average gameplay. 2 of 5 play only if it's your favorite genre. 1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do. 0 of 5 play if you're a masochist. -1 of 5 avoid. MDK score is -1 of 5.
