As vast alien mining cities suck the power and minerals from every major metropolis on Earth simultaneously, time is of the essence as millions of civilians are expiring by the second.
Using your stealth parachute and the now infamous "Zooming" head-mounted sniper weapon, your task is to slip in undetected from the sky, seek out and remove the alien leader by any means. Fully reactive “smart enemies” think, listen and communicate in a calculated assault on your life. Think fast and act faster against the most sophisticated artificial enemy intelligence of its time.
The main objective of the game is to basically shoot everything that moves and everything means every alien you will come across. The one and only way to stop the alien invasion is to kill'em all by any means necessary, such as the smallest nuclear bomb, surfboard-like jet or bomber plane. Your goal is simple - repulse the alien invasion and save the Earth... almost single handedly.

It's quite incredible that this game holds up to this day. The controls are smooth, the gameplay easy to get into, and the levels creative and full of funny set pieces.
So I love this game and grew up playing it on one of those transparent green Macs. Got it for my PC but does anyone know how to make the controls smooth? like it's so glitchy and occasionally when there are a lot of explosions it smooths out but only briefly. I've tried looking at the mouse and keyboard settings but nothing helps. Any suggestions?
I'd like to start by saying I have very little nostalgia towards MDK. I played the game for about 10 minutes when it originally came out, but that's it.
Having said that, I find this little gem absolutelly brilliant. Controls require some tweaking (i believe they were originally set up to be played exclusively on keyboards, and mouse conrols are truly bizzare, with Y axis controlling the forward movement) but other than that, the game is amazing. It still looks great thanks to some truly excellent art direction (something that in my opinion have been lost in the sequel), plays great thanks to suprising diversity in gameplay (and I say that in 2018, it must have been absolutely mindboggingly awesome back in 1997), frantic pacing and nicely balanced challenge.
I've hear that originally the game had no saving whatsoever, which must have been pretty brutal, but now it supports quicksaving and quicloading, so the problem no longer exists.
I can't reccoment MDK enough, it's truly a classic in my book, I've beaten it 3 times so far.
Fast paced and frantic with lots of little humorous moments, interesting characters and level designs. Good game play mechanics with some neat and novel ideas, and a great soundtrack too. However, there isn’t much of a plot, the game’s not very long, and the controls are a bit awkward, especially during the platform sequences.
7/10
Forgot about reviewing this, but here we go.
I remember this game very well from when I played it back on the PS1 so many years ago. Back when it was new! The gunplay was fun, coupled with the different ammo types, usage of torpedoes to shoot down vents and get the enemy, the odd art style and the very strange direct this game often goes in!
The game was created by the Earthworm Jim creator, Doug TenNapel. The same insanity is in this game where you use nukes for keys to doors, your pilot is a four-armed dog and the villains are all strange and each boss battle is different too. This really hit me with the nostalgia vibe as I streamed it, since I originally played it on the PS1, but I do not thing I ever actually finished it.
You get a short briefing and there's even a potential for speed-running as if you do not defeat the boss in time, the location of a city that the aliens are aiming at gets blown up! No real punishment happens because of this, I find beyond a silly comment with something like "Oops, Weymouth has been destroyed. Oh well, it was only Weymouth" or something like that, but I can't actually remember the name of those towns that were being used tbh. There's some fun gore in it where you can shoot off the alien's heads for a kill shot, but if you hit them in the leg they're known to limp around and cry for help allowing you to be as sadistic as you want in this.
Some maps have Earthworm Jim tokens that you can collect, followed with is trademark "Groovy!" every time you manage to pick one up, often in these skiing sections.
I named the creator because, as I was informed in my stream, the guy turns out to be a scumbag, being opposed to Same-sex marriage and deliberately misgendering a journalist who reviewed Earthworm Jim.
However, he no longer holds the licence from what I understand so feel free to enjoy the game series guilt-free!
