Superb.

I came late to the party with this, only getting a hold of my own copy of Master of Orion 2 through GOG - but, I have to say, I've never played a 4x as well done as this, before or since. It has truly survived the test of time, and while the graphics have aged considerably, they retain their charm despite the years. This game is worth every penny. As a bonus, you get the first one too, but I can't really state my opinions on it. The original Master of Orion just couldn't grab me.

Fun and Fully Patched

In a world of turn-based 4x games, none before it and none after it have delivered the amusement of Master of Orion 2. When newer versions of DirectX made the Windows 95 a pain to run on a modern machine, I kept some form of 9x laptop around until it was no longer practical. I'm thrilled to have a pre-configured DoxBox solution that just works after install on the newest hardware. Included in the download are the lastest unofficial patches that correct a few outstanding bugs Microprose never managed to squash. Now, I'm off to wipe out those pesky Silicoids with a stellar converter-equipped doomstar! Oh, and it comes with the original Master of Orion with is just as much of a treat to play, though ship design isn't quite as interesting, in my opinion.

Agree, best game ever

In terms of tight game design for Master of Orion 1 i agree, this is the best game ever, every detail is deeply thought out. Perhaps the only disapointment is that there are not more options for setting up game parameters so that you can create particular scenarios but every game plays different anyway because of the way the game elements randomise and interact to create unique situations. Master of Orion 2 is not as seamless as the first one but has more options available, such as customising your own species and starting at different tech levels. Both games are very imersive but I don't recomend them for people suffering computer game addiction as it is almost impossible to stop playing.

Addictive on a whole new level

This game has taken countless hours of my time, researching and building a fleet the likes of which will destroy all other civilizations! Anything but simple Master of Orion 2 has the barest bones graphics-wise yet still holds up as a fantastic strategy title today, if a bit time consuming. Try this if you enjoy series such as Civ, and if you find yourself drawn to this game you'll be booting it up again months from now.

MOO 2 is very good

I remember MOO2 from my early computer days, it has a very high "one more turn" factor. Not the full 5 stars though, as you progress through the larger game types, the game can become slightly stale and repeating. Also once you find out that certain weapon modifications are extremely potent it not hard to win even at higher difficulties. All in all, definitely a game worth to play.
