...one more turn, then i go to sleep...

It is too addictive, you play "one more turn" and notice that you played 3hours.

Still the best!

MOO2 is still the best 4x game with no challenger around be it old or new. The Race-Customization is unmatched Heros give your Colonies or Ships a significant boost The AI is challenging Mulitplayer works (start it with the seperate Multiplayer button from the Startmenu-Folder - we were using - Hamachi to fake a LAN over Internet connection - works great). The Gamespeed is set to a good value and not out of control. Space Monster that Hide in Systems, Splinter Colonies, Events... Great Battles with Capturing of technological advanced Spaceships. Its a huge mistery why no one ever could capture/imrpove the gameplay with some of the new products. MOO2 is the Ultima VII of the 4x SF genre!

Solid 4X Spacer, Overrated?

MOO1 is so very dated at this point, and is so vastly overshadowed by the much more refined and charming MOO2, that you, for the most part, probably will ignore it in this combo pack. MOO2 is just superior in nearly every way. In fact, MOO2 is often hailed as the ultimate 4X experience. But I think that is a stretch by today's standards. Once upon a time it was the best thing out there, but even then it lacked refinement and balance. Today, it is still great--it's just there are better 4Xers on the market now. It still receives lots of nostalgic tongue bathing though (hence the glowing reviews everywhere). MOO2 helped define the genre, but it didn't quite perfect it. You'll find some races and abilities in this game that are laughable overpowered. Some parts of the UI will be tedious. Some strange luck factors are involved. And (although rarely) some inconstant AI. But for the time, this was all revolutionary. But other games have evolved beyond these nigglingly issues--so at this point MOO2 shows its age a little.

Love MOO2!

MOO2 is hands down one of the best strategy games I've ever played My main criticism is that it really needs a Civilization style planetary build queue. As you get to end-game, particularly if you're trying for max points, managing the build queue for all your planets becomes a major time sink. One problem I've noticed with the MacOS version is that, it's very processor intensive, causing the fan on my MBAir to run at 100%, which drains the battery. The original Mac version ran well on much older macs, even under Classic mode, so it's likely due to the use of Crossover... oh well, at least it runs.

Games that you never uninstall

I've had these two games on every computer I've owned since they were released back in the 90's. To this day I still play both games fairly regularly. Truly epic games that helped to define PC gaming.
