Caster of Magic, the enhanced edition of the original Master of Magic, is a work of love.
It was built by the community to improve on a strategy classic. Now it's brought a step further with Caster of Magic for Windows.
It is an upgraded edition of a classic which allows you to run it natively on Windows for the first time, as well as supporting higher screen resolutions.
It also contains countless improvements for Caster of Magic, including new spells, game options, UI and AI improvements. It is the ultimate edition of Master of Magic, brought by the fans to the modern era.
Caster of Magic started out as a mod, championed by Seravy and building on top of the already popular community patch. Caster of Magic has been a fan favorite of the Master of Magic community and we are pleased to be able to work with Seravy to officially integrate Caster of Magic, giving him the recognition he deserves.

This looks like it wasn't ready for release.
The interface looks worse than the original from '94. Why is it more pixelated? I wanted to like this game and play for the new features, but I keep shutting it off because the of the interface. The color scheme is changed, pixelation is bad, some of the shortcut keys were changed (example: typing C no longer centers on a unit).
I hope this will be revised soon. When it is, I will come back for a revised review.

It includes Slitherine's launcher that comes up with a launcher window containing only four huge buttons (image [url=http://static.wikia.nocookie.net/masterofmagic/images/6/66/MoM_Launcher.png]here[/url]). One button is a ad for the new 2022 remake of the game. The other three buttons are for three versions of classic:

In terms of deep, engrossing gameplay, I'd rate Caster of Magic as possibly the best 4X experience ever. (For me, the only serious competitor would be the Fall from Heaven II mod for Civ 4.) That may strike you as hyperbole, but the original Master of Magic would appear near the top of many veteran strategy players' lists, and this mod/DLC is such an improvement, I don't think I would ever be able to go back.
Seravy has managed to keep the spirit of the original -- the atmosphere, the myriad choices as to strategy, the mind-boggling depth, the super-powered stratagems -- but he has made subtle adjustments which allow the AI to play the game, too. Or, to be more precise, his adjustments allow the AI to give you a real run for your money. The game contains many high powered combinations, but each now has a counter, and the AI will try to use those counters. So while paladins and halfling slingers are still valuable units, owning a bunch of them no longer amounts to "I win" because AI opponents will have ideas as to how to adjust.
Of course, the game will not be for everybody. Not everyone who thinks he wants fierce competition from the computer opponents will actually be happy when this is granted. More importantly, it's mostly still 1994 graphics (which I do not mind at all) and UI (which I do... good grief, the map is frustrating!) Also, if your attachment to the original is highly nostalgic, it is quite possible that specific details you loved have been altered.
However, no shiny new game that I know of offers this sort of tense strategic gameplay. I've been playing this non-stop since it came out, and it's pretty much taken over my life. I suspect that crack cocaine would have proven less addictive. :)
Seravy, a Japanese programmer, created the best mod ever for the original MoM, and now with this revamped and reorganized game, the experience becomes fantastic. Much better AI, several bugs fixed, and most importantly, some much needed UI improvements. Definitely recommended.
