Description
D'arc is sixteen years old. He has trained extensively in the Elemental arts for the past decade, under the discerning eyes of the Mage Masters of Iginor. Confined to an existence of academics and magical mastery in their tower, the inquisitive Initiate often wonders what it would be like to explore the secluded outside world.

D'arc's moment of reckoning arrives and his Masters put him to the test. The young Initiate is tasked with retrieving three items, which will test his magical and mental strength to full capacity:

A lock of hair from a powerful Enchantress.

The unspoiled shell of Griffon's egg.

The three-pronged horn of the legendary Trinicorn.

Join D'arc on a perilous journey across the medieval-styled land of Iginor. Brave the perilous Bloodbark forest where the Redcap goblins stalk. Trek across a barren desert wasteland rife with lawless Bandits and fierce Burrowers. Navigate over a vast lake where evil masquerades as beauty. And ascend beyond the lofty mountain peaks where the mysterious and hostile Flyterians dwell, suspicious of all outsiders. It is time for D'arc to prove himself.

Three quests. One chance. Will D'arc succeed and take his place among his fellow Mages?

Fun

Fun story. The puzzles are mostly logical and you don't have to try every item with every person/object. I recommend playing the card game until the other guy runs out of money, it saves a lot of grind time.

All the old-school goodness

Sure, the combat is clunky. Ok, the run animation is kinda funky. The main VA is... well, shocking (everyone else isn't too bad) But where this game absolutely makes it for me, is in it's wonderful throwbacks to the 90's Sierra games I grew up with. The town is wonderful, with very familiar music which I thoroughly enjoyed, familiar puzzle-solving with no 'obvious' interactables (you have to use your brain, which is refreshing) no stupid in-game hint sytem, just a really delightful romp through the true point'n'click adventure genre. This game gives me the warm and fuzzies and everything just makes me smile

Good Homage to QfG

This game is reminiscent of such titles as Quest for Glory and Kings Quest. It is a shame there has not been talk about a sequel for so many years.

Lacks polish throughout.

I tried to like it but it's just poorly designed and poorly implemented. The introductory cutscene is good but after that you're greeted to a horrible mishmash of the GUI, Sprites and the backgrounds being entirely different styles and resolutions that all seem to be improperly scaled. Then it holds your hand unnecessarily in some places but then lets you wander 4 screens over before telling you "I think I need something from X" in the irritating nasal voice of the protagonist who really needed more filler dialogue to stop the same line being used every time you click something the game doesn't want you to. The pathfinding is also incredibly weak and the combat, although the most polished part, suffers from the controls being so awkwardly spaced on the keyboard that there's no comfortable way to do anything. This forces you to jarringly use the mouse that suddenly pauses everything. Lastly there are a few gamebreaking bugs, one not loading the character into the scene outside of the town causing the game to softlock and making you load and go around. This wouldn't be a problem if the game didn't make you backtrack so damn much but the majority of the gametime is wasting time moving through empty redundant screens so I would imagine this isn't the only place something like this happens. All in all it's just an unpolished mess. I tried so hard to like it but everything is just so unpleasant that it really just needs to be started over with a more competent project lead. I really wish I hadn't helped kickstart this.

We waited 10 years and it was worth the wait.

As Kingsquest fan's we waited for 10 years to be able to play that game. 10 years is a long time to create a game and as we play it now the second time we begin to understand what work went into it. Actually you buy 4 games instead of one. We found it amazing that every element seems to have a different story, which means if you are a fire mage you make different experiences as if you are an earth mage ( which we are now) and the storyline is slightly different. It reminds us very well of the old King Quest games even the adventure hat is seen somewhere in the game as well as other subtle references. The combat scenes are good for us as we do not fancy to battle too much. We rather use our head to find solutions :). The story is deep and interesting. There is also a lot of humor in the game which made us laugh a lot. It was worth the wait and now I got no time to write more as we want to play again. Well done and thank you
