Mafia III review

TL/DR> If you play games for the story, the setting and the characters, you'll love it. If you want to play a shooter and don't care about the rest, don't buy it. -------- I loved the game, even with its flaws. Yes, it's repetitive, but it didn't bother that much because the characters and the story are so well done. It's a 4-1/2 stars game for me. In the 92 hours I played I didn't encounter any game breaking bug. Just some glitches here and there. These are the pros and cons of the game with the three DLC. I don't know if this version includes the DLC. Pros> + Great story set in a very interesting time period. + Top notch voice acting. One of the games with the best voice acting I've ever played. + Amazing music. + Facial animation and expressions in cutscenes are brilliantly done. + Tons of things to do. + Car races are very fun. + Some main missions are excellent. + A varied selection of guns that feels great. + You can alter the story progression, giving (or not) district to underbosses to make friends or enemies, Cons> - Repetitive missions. - Inconsistent and glitchy graphics. - AI is so so. - You can't replay main missions. While the game looks blurry, I recommend using Reshade+SweetFX shaders to sharpen the image. It makes the game looks much, much better.

Fantastic Game

The game is good art. The narrative is fantastic, while its a bit hard to get a grip on the protagonist, the supporting characters are brilliant, and all very well written, Lincoln is too, he's just what he is. Lies so often to other characters you're not always sure what his truth actually is. The Documentary framing narrative is interesting and really well done, and reflects the choices you make along the way, especially with one of the ending choices. The best thing is the Soundtrack. The game has the best soundtrack of any game I've ever played, and not just the choice of songs or the variety of them, but they are the original music are used exceptionally well. Get things to feel the way they should. The writing, the music and the setting all tie into the themes as well, which are well handled and interestingly done. Really justifies the setting by exploring it and using it to tell a perspective, not just as a pretty backdrop and excuse for songs. Everything works together to tell the story. Game-play wise, It's a good game. The quests get a bit repeaty and you soon run out of things to do that ain't close to what you've already been doing, but there's way more variation in the repeating quests than most games give you. But they aren't to the point of being frustrating and usually everything while challenging enough to be rewarding are doable on the first try, if you're careful anyway. But really, I'd say this game is all about the narrative, and it does that very well. The expansions/DLC are also brilliant and fun as well. (Have a weeks worth of hours on it in Steam where it came out first)

Good action game

Looks pretty nice, cool settings and great gunplay but repetitive and with a rather dull AI.

Mafia 3 or Moorhuhn 3D?

Do you like games comparable with Moorhuhn? Then buy this not good title but beware because now you' re the masochistic Moorhuhn! I am trying hard to beat this game, but I get the hang of it because it is becoming a roguelike due to dozens and dozens of deaths. This is the first game I really got migraine attacks. It is more work than fun. The difficulty level is often much too hard and I am playing shooters since the beginning of the computer technology. Fortunately I only bought the normal version and not the more expensive edition or one of the DLCs. ;-) Keep it! I think, the Mafia must have placed some programmers into a room with drawn weapons to accomplish this game. Awful game mechanics in this third mafia title in combination with being grasping to offer an optional in mission savegame feature. It's a shame because the artwork and atmosphere is awesome. And in opposition to other reviewers I also like the setting. Often it is fun cruising around between the missions to admire the landscape. The car models are nice. The a.i. behaviour of some other road users who are crossing your line can be absolutely nerve killing. Police chases in the mission are pure horror because they are trying to catch you directly glued on your rear bumper. And not only one car was pinned there to shoot on your wheels. One time I felt into a river with my car, I got out of the car and after that I was directly attacked and killed by an alligator which must have been a disguised undercover agent of the police. And the big brother is everywhere like the endless waves of capos especially when some of them are calling for reinforcement again and again. In case of an alarm big brother always knows exactly where you are. They are coming from everywhere to eat you!
