It's great - and at the same time boring

The story of this game is great for a Mad Max game. It starts slow, and near the end it becomes a roller coaster ride with a fitting showdown. So far so awesome! But then you have your usual open world grinding, if you want the best of the best at the end for your car you have to grind A LOT! And that is where this game falls apart. Sadly. Doing the same stuff hundreds of times gets on my nerves. I had much fun with most of the missions, the strongholds and camps are entertaining, I liked taking out convoys, and then I had times where I only wanted to end this game quickly because I was so bored of the grind in between. Fighting the same three dudes over two pieces of scrap over and over and over, god, why did the developers do this?? So I don't know what to tell you. You have no problem with wasting your time to get a good story out of it in the end? Than you can play this. If you don't want to waste your time on endless grind, watch a longplay on youtube for the story. Oh, and by the way: I read a lot about that one story mission race, it would be an insane increase of the difficulty curve. Fear not, that's overblown. Concentrate on the main villain, five thundercaps should do it. If you don't come of to a good start in the race, just start it again. At my fourth try I managed to shoot him enough and blew him up, mission won. I was actually worried after reading about it, but like I said, it's not that tough.

Less would have been more

I finally played this after putting it on the back burner for a couple of years. The visual presentation is still very impressive and I love the landscape, sunsets and car designs. In terms of gameplay it is unfortunately very basic. The camps are all too similar, I liked the one that was stationed on a bridge which you can snipe out from afar. That kind of variety is very rare. I did most of the side missions but the overall story is not very engaging and quite short. There was a lot of potential here but they did only the bare minimum. Max is incredibly unlikeable and all his choices feel unnecessary stupid. Choices, that would have been nice to be in the hands of the player. This feels like watching a bad movie where the protagonist does the worst decision on every little corner. It would have been nice to be able to pit certain factions against each other too. This felt a little bit like they had three years to make a game but then cut it down to half, so a lot of features got axed along the way. All the bosses are the same guy with a different costume, just add more henchmen. I liked attacking convoys and that should have been the real boss fights in my opinion. It would have been great to attack several different heavily guarded war rigs or switch cars mid-chase, join Scavengers or jump unto a truck. The movies have all these great ideas what to do during a chase and the game gives us the bare bones. Instead we get artificial little fetch quests like all these mini scavenger spots. The map is littered with them, but I wish we got less of those and more high memorable enemy encounters. A game that needed much, much more polish to compete with the best open world games out there. 5 out of 10

Exactly what a Mad Max game should be

Avalanche outdid themselves with this one. This isn't some cheap movie cash in, it's an all new story in the Mad Max world, one that really had me feeling like the Road Warrior himself. Bad ass vehicular combat with awesome upgrades (love that harpoon), Brutal beat 'em action with vicious takedowns, A gorgeous gritty post apocalyptic world to explore, and some real oddball scumbag characters to get to know. Without the license it would be a decent open world game, but with the license it really scratches every Road Warrior's itch.

This is really good.

I approached this game with caution: why is a good - looking game, based upon quite popular IP, obscured to the point I never even heard about it? It must suck, be bugged, be fundamentally flawed or something of the sorts, right? Well, no, it isn't. At all. Mad Max is an open - world, post- apocalyptic, arcade'y game mixing together some RPG elements, racing and fast - paced combat (think Batman: Arkham whatever as an example). It has very thematic world building, good graphics and voice acting, really fun combat system, fast-paced car combat and awesome dust storms with physical particles hitting you left and right. It has good character progression system, rewarding you for just playing the game and exploring the world like you normally would, with no grinding or anything of the sorts. It has good amount of upgrades, customization (especially cars) and things to do besides the main story and I found myself naturally diverging away from it when I explored something that peeks my interest. The game is lighter on RPG side, the story is not very captivating, just middle of the road. After a while the game becomes a bit samey with enemies and cars being the new versions of the previously known ones. It's not a huge issue, since everything you do in the game is actually fun and not tedious at all (RDR2, watch and learn), but it also means the game is a bit simplistic and unrealistic. Is this game innovative? No. Is it revolutionary? No. But is it fun? Hell yeah! So why nobody ever talks about it? Really, I have no idea, but I want to state very clearly that THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS GAME. If you're lookong for a deep RPG experience you will be disappoonted, yes, but if you're looking for an arcade'y fun, thematic racing game, it's right here for you. For me, it's a solid 8/10.

Standard Open world game

The title says much about my opinion of this game. In this one you travel by car (and you will use it a lot for game mechanics) that the plot makes a central protagonist with our main character and his called sidekick. The car must be optimized by buying pieces that are unlocked by main story missions, some side ones or lowering the enemy control of certain area (lots of "open worlds" games have something like this). The main appeal is the Mad Max universe and certanly the combat system that mirrors the batman arkham since Warner Bros games is involved. It has some survival elements that turn meaningless once you upgrade your character enough. The plot is grim but kinda generic it have though one of the best opening cinematics. Overall a solid experience, not a "game of the year" but enjoyable if not getting stuck in collectables.
