Description
Machinarium is our first full-length adventure game in which players take on the role of a robot who has been exiled to the scrap heap. You must use logic, collect important items, and solve environmental puzzles to get the robot back into the city of Machinarium so he can rescue his robot girlfriend, save the head of the city, and defeat the bad guys from the Black Cap Brotherhood.

Machinarium is a prime example of why point ‘n’ click adventure games are not dead. It was created by people who clearly love the genre with aim to deliver a top-notch entertainment for all those gamers who really miss the magical world of adventure games. And boy did the developers deliver! Every element--even the smallest ones--are crafted with exceptional care and polish by people who clearly knew what they were doing and loved it. This level of detail is hard to find in most modern games that seem to be mass produced, so it is a very refreshing feeling to see a title that is made with such care and passion.

  • Honored with numerous prestigious gaming awards such as “Excellence in Visual Art” (Independent Games Festival) and Best Soundtrack (PC Gamer in 2009).
  • A classic point ‘n’ click gameplay with a modern flavor revitalizes the adventure genre in exciting ways.
  • Beautiful and enchanting soundtrack that melds classical and futuristic tunes memorably.

The best adventure game since forever

Machinarium is almost perfect. It is pretty as hell, it's got GREAT music (I even bought the LP) and it's got a wonderful world. As far as point and click games go, this one is extra honest about what they really are – puzzle games with a story. In this case there's no written dialogue, and it works so well you'd almost wish more games did away with endless dialogue and just focused on the core of the experience. Some of the puzzles are somewhat obscure, but Machinarium isn't in any way unique here (remember the monkey wrench puzzle from Monkey Island 2?), and in the end it's so well put together that I really can't say anything negative about it.

Bitter-sweet Adventure

Even though the main character is an adorable humble robot surrounded by sweet and funny little creatures the world of Machinarium embraces you with an oppressive and hopeless atmosphere created by a fascinating artwork and the mute characters supporter by a well arranged soundtrack. Every screen seems to be taken from a picture book of a post apocalyptical world with childlike but somehow cruel inhabitants. Most puzzles can be solved in just one screen (surprisingly that doesn’t make it easier). There are only few puzzle chains although all your struggles lead to a main quest.

A charming adventure game

Machinarium is a mixture of point-and-click adventure and puzzle games. Although I love adventure games, I'm not a fun of puzzle ones. Yet this game really captivated me with its beautiful graphical art, animation and story. This is a truly professionally crafted game, way more mature than previous titles as samorost 1 & 2.

Not an adventure game

I've been misled by the large number of 5-star reviews that talk about how this game is supposed to be like classic point-and-click adventure games - one would think of the Monkey Island series, or Beneath a Steel Sky, etc. These reviews couldn't be farther from reality. First, several 5-star reviews are spam, raising the games average rating. Second, this game has nothing whatsoever common with any of the great classic adventure games. This thing is a short, illogical, frustrating Flash puzzle game with tons of pixel hunting. It only deserves some recognition because of its visuals. The visual are is done nicely - hand-drawn backgrounds and characters in a charming style. When speaking of adventure games, one thinks of story first. There's no story in Machinarium at all, just a bunch of random scenes where you randomly have to click on things until you progress to the next screen. Some of the puzzles are, indeed, logical but many are just unrelated minigames as is so usual with Flash games. Puzzles have no purpose at all other than slowing down the progress of the player - they don't connect to the story (because there isn't any) and they all feel forced since they don't relate to the game world or the main character.
