Description
Trouble is afoot in the once peaceful land of Turnvale. Skori warriors (vicious mercenaries under the control of the mysterious Temptress) have arrived. But who is the Temptress, and more importantly, where is she?

From the creators of the Broken Sword series, Revolution Software, comes the first in a series of 'Virtual Theater' adventure game. Non-playable characters will walk around and perform different actions regardless of your interaction with them. There is a variety of options and commands, including the possibility of interaction with a supporting character, whom you can give orders in order to solve some of the game's puzzles.

Lure of the Temptress has an intuitive point and click system. Everything you need to do (movie, talk, search and fight) is controlled via the mouse and its two buttons. It's all you need to explore a large and complex game world with over 60 screens to explore... more than 25 intriguing characters to interact with... and of course, Selena - the Temptress.
  • A captivating story set in grim, medieval times
  • The old-school feel of a classic adventure game
  • Many interesting characters that move about freely and live out their own lives, thanks to the Virtual Theatre system

Frustrating

Other reviewers have already commented on the annoying nature of the Virtual Theatre system, so I won't say much more than I heartily agree. Most of the game's length comes from waiting to get control of your character back after he's bounced off every NPC on the screen, or from trying to snag the NPC you were trying to talk to after you've spent so long wandering around that both of you forgot what was going on. There was a glitch in my playthrough near the end, but it didn't seem to matter and I was able to finish. The ending was quick and anticlimactic (that's what she said!). What little 'fighting' there was amounted to a few button-mash moments that could've been skipped for all they mattered to the story. Conclusion: there are far better point-and-clicks to play, but it's hard to argue with the price.

A classic

This is something I still own today for my Atari ST. It's a classic game alright and I love the little touches like the background actions and how the community interacts and goes about their business. The artwork and sounds are superb. Just an all-round awesome game but my only critism is sometimes its lack of guidance because you're often left wondering what's next and this can get some players feeling lost. Google for the Atari ST game over on AtariCrypt because it's a Christmas cracker and Lure Of the Temptress is something every adventurer should play :)

Beautiful visuals

Normally I play games primarily for their stories, characters and/or the gameplay. Graphics? Who cares about that. However, this game is kind of the reverse case. The gameplay has a really cool idea behind it, but the execution is terrible, primarily due to the atrocious pathfinding. The story itself is a run-off-the-mill fantasy story about a young farmer man saving the kingdom! (eventhough the end hat two funny twists I enjoyed) So nothing special. But it really is beautiful! I love how the game works with darker colours and a lot of black spaces in a way which enhances the beautifully drawn backgrounds! This alone made it worth it for me. Well, and I like midi sounds.

Very short but innovative

Once you know what to do the game can take less than 4 hours to play through, and it has some issues such as fiddly pathing which can make some puzzles frustrating for no good reason. However, the game is innovative in that it is an early example of a game that has NPCs that walk about the town going about their business, something that would become a staple in later RPGs but was very rare in games of this age. Nice artwork for its time, too.

good story & humor but bad interface

I gave this game a try, since it is 1) free and 2) old enough to be a "classic" The story about some "orc-invasion" was far from new even when this game was made, I bet. But they added some absurd and funny scenes & characters which makes the weak "orc"story sometimes less boring. And the main character, who became an adventurer "by chance" together with his sidekick "Ratpouch" .. well, I do like this kind of humor - others may find it plain stupid.. The manual features the same style of humor, by the way. The sounds are.. well, I thougt my speakers were damaged when i finally went past the intro-screen. But they implemented an option to silence the game. Good forward thinking, boys. The graphics are good enough! It is an old game, remember ? You can see whats going on, there are animations, several people walking around or sitting and drinking.. The interface is the main reason why I don´t really like this game. You have to click onto something/someone, then choose an action. Sounds easier then it actually is, since some characters tend to keep running away when you want to interact with them. Also some places and items are hidden so well, I for my part ended up looking for a "walkthrough".. I found playing it was more "work" than "fun" so I can´t really recommend it. After all - give this game a try if you have got this "What did I miss by not buying and playing this game back then??" feeling.
