Description
Lost Ruins is a 2D side-scrolling survival action game, where you play as a young girl that has awoken in a strange and foreign place without her memories. Explore a dark and dangerous world, battle hideous monsters, and topple incredible bosses.

A young girl wakes up in a dimly lit dungeon without any of her memories. Surrounded by horrible, bloodthirsty monsters, she is rescued by a mysterious magician, Beatrice. With Beatrice’s help, the girl goes on a perilous journey to find answers and unlock the secrets of the Lost Ruins.

Engage in Combat
Combat in Lost Ruins is in real time, and can be both fast and methodical. Slash away at enemies, burn them to a crisp, or even deflect their projectiles back at them. Arm yourself with a variety of swords, axes and other assorted medieval weaponry, and hack monsters to pieces.

Master Spells
For those with an affinity for magic, Lost Ruins allows you to cast a variety of spells through wands, tonics, and scrolls. Burn monsters, freeze bosses, and heal yourself when in danger. Choose what works for your playstyle and make a magic casting character that’s totally your own.

Choose Accessories
The world of Lost Ruins is a dangerous one and being armed to the teeth with awesome weaponry is sometimes not enough. That’s where accessories come in. Accessories are unique pieces of equipment with all manner of effects. One accessory might protect you against fire, while another might heal you when you’re poisoned. The right combination of accessories can create different strategic options for your adventure.

Use the Environment
As you explore the depths of Lost Ruin’s dimly lit dungeons, you will find that while everything around you might bring about your death, you can also use the environment around you to your advantage. Elements within the world will react with other elements realistically. Flammable liquids will be set ablaze when in contact with lit lanterns. Ice magic will freeze bodies of water, making them dangerously cold. The more you understand the environment and how to use it to your advantage, the more dangerous you will become.

Main Character

A young school girl who wakes up in a dangerous underground maze with no memory of her past. Desperate to find answers to who she is and how she ended up in this place, she begins exploring the ruins.

Beatrice

A mysterious woman with incredible magical ability, Beatrice acts as the main character's guide through the lost ruins. She seems to be hiding something, however.

Goblin Merchant

This helpful little guy works for Beatrice, and appears throughout the game to assist the main character.

Sora & Mingie

These two girls aren't just zombies, they're also big fans of pop music idols, evidenced by the glow sticks they carry wherever they go.

Just the usual Anime with the usual crappy gameplay

There is nothing new here. It's just another Metroidvania-like game, with the usual Anime aesthetics. And, of course, Anime comes with the usual sexualized sprites, obviously targeting teenagers. Animations are annoying. Characters dance like strippers literally every single second they don't walk or attack - which I'm guessing is just another silly attempt to attract teenagers. So typical... and even if you like that kind of animation, it will get old very quickly, as it happens all the time, the exact same way. Graphics are ok. Nothing special, but if you like pixel art, that's probably the best part of the game. Sadly, even that is ruined by the silly animations. Sound is... not worth mentioning. Combat is barely passable, as it gets old pretty fast. No, thank you. Honestly, it's hard to find something nice to say about this game. The final verdict is a very generous 3/10, and that for the pixel art only. Do not waste your money on this, even when it is on sale.

The gameplay's actually alright but...

But the game is creepy as hell. As in, it makes you look creepy as hell, more than you probably deserve in a saner world, but in this one, you do NOT want to let your female co-workers know you played this; they'll start looking for ways to get you fired. Heck, you probably don't want anyone to know you bought this. I only did because it had a "basically okay" rating on Zero Punctuation. I would have dropped it down to two stars for creepiness, because figuring out what you're supposed to do can be really frustrating your first playthrough. So basically the challenge can be summed up in two parts: learn what combination of items is best for a given area, and figure out boss patterns. The right combinations of items can trivialize situations that the wrong combination can make unwinnable. In fact you'll be switching out items so often it really made me wish there were more slots just so I didn't have to go into the menu every few screens. There's not a lot of variety in your attacks, and you're going to be really hesitant to use magic or consumables, possibly more than you should be. That all changes once you unlock Boss and Witch Modes. In boss modes you switch out between 3 sets of attacks on the fly, something I wish the base mode had, and it feels like you just have more variety in what you can do in any moment (also, the dialogue is actually entertaining). In Witch Mode, you start out somewhat stronger than in base modes and end by just blasting away anything in your way with total ease. Assassin mode is a lot like the base mode and I kinda got bored with the game after trying that out.
