In the Time of the Ancients, the Worldly Realm was ruled by a God of pure evil, who enslaved all humankind under his Dominion. But fear turned to anger as rebellion grew in the hearts of men - until the dawn of the Great Rising, when the fight for freedom began. After a glorious victory that cast aside the Fallen God, humans dictated a new order... a world where no sin can ever be forgiven and redemption was not an option.
Now, millennia later, the world trembles in fear as the Demonic Rhogar Legion returns from their dark realm, driven by a foul hunger for innocent spirits. Humanity, in a desperate last act, calls upon an unlikely defender - a convicted sinner, rejected by society and cast out of the light... a man known as Harkyn. Now, alongside his mentor, Kaslo, they must travel to the source of the Darkness... to face the Lords of the Fallen.
Plunge into a fast paced action RPG with a complex and satisfying melee combat system where weapons, armor and skills directly influence the enemy's speed and attacks... if all else fails, lay waste to your foes using forbidden magic power.
Key Features:
Embark on an Epic Quest that spans both human and demonic realms
Confront the mighty Lords, generals of the Rhogar army
Explore a vast dark fantasy world
Make your choices wisely as they may seal your fate
Wield legendary weapons and armors from a vast arsenal
Choose your class: Warrior, Cleric or Rogue and fully customize each with skills and weapons
To begin with, it is slow. Slow to the point of being too late to parry when the enemy weapon is moving.
And then, there are spiders. For some reason, giant spiders enter a fantasy world much sooner than:
- mythological creatures
- fantasy races
- anything original, at all
Here, you have instead:
- traditional medieval Europe
- demons
- giant spiders
It's a dark souls like game but the tutorial lasts all of 15 seconds, you can't repeat the tutorial for practice, and it doesn't explain half of your actions. The combat is somewhat slower than dark souls. Your character is very slow with limited weapon reach so fighting back against the bosses is very annoying. Personally would love a refund even with buying this on a massive sale...
Combat was okay at best and down-right awful at worst. Light-weapons were quick and didn't hit hard which made sense and I didn't have a problem with. Heavy weapons hit hard and broke through shields but were so hilariously slow almost to point of being down-right unplayable. And any advantage heavy weapons including breaking the guard of shield enemies gave you casting spells usually did at the cost of limited use. But even if you can overlook all that and even enjoy the combat the game is relatively short with only a handful of bosses and doesn't offer much in options of builds. Meaning this game has much lower replayablity factor than others of the genre. Which is a point interestingly nobody is mentioning. Is it worth 5.00? That's the highest I would pay for it coming from somebody who bought it a full price when it was originally released and was quite disappointed with it.
I've never played a soulslike game before. Are they all like this with the controls?
I just can't believe the controller buttons can't be remapped. I would probably forgive this if the mapping default wasn't terrible but there are only two available controller schemes and they're almost identically bad.
R1, RT, L1, and LT are all locked and cannot be changed. R1 as light attack, RT as heavy attack, L1 as block and R3 as lock-on is probably the worst button config I've ever seen and they cannot be changed. I mean what were they thinking? Utterly baffling design choice. As a result I played for less than one minute before trying to change this, then being completley stunned that I couldn't, asked for a refund.
Lords of the Fallen is just a retarded relative to Souls games. You may love if for that, but more likely you're gonna hate it for that.
The main problem here is that it has no real audience. Souls fans have better games to play, and everyone else will just end up being frustrated by clunkyness and difficulty.
For me it was an average experience, nothing to regret, but also nothing to remember.
