Little Nightmares has great atmosphere, environment is truely dreamlike with crazy ladders and botomless pits. It is not trying to startle you with jumpscares, but provides a lot of creeps. Game is short and it's length is just right.
The atmosphere is very mysterious, crafted to be terrifiyng. After the ending I felt a little dissapointed, but this feeling only been around for a little while until I realised how much I wanted to know more about the game's lore.
The overall story combines deeply with the gameplay, providing the feeling of actually seeing a concious reaction of environment to your own actions. This gives the feeling of non-linearity in the story, like actually making a difference in the game's world, even though the story itself is constantly linear.
Immersion is where this game shines. Backroung sounds, locations, details... The animations are very detailed and non-repetative compared to other games. It makes it very interesting to just observe the characters in the world. Heck, there was even a time I waited for a couple of minutes for a certain animation I saw to loop once again, but it never did!
And it's because of these small things playing this game feels like actually being in it's cold and cruel world that is trying to kill you in every possible way. In this particualr aspect, this game is also really similar to "Inside" and "Limbo" by Playdead, while also borrowing some concepts from "Spirited away" (anime) and "Fran Bow". So if you happen to like at least some of these - give this game a try. You will not regret it.
Great atmosphere, amazing visuals thanks to Unreal Engine 4, amazing sound effects and ambient sounds, love the bizarre stuff like really weird NPC's on each segment. Character movement needs a bit getting used to, but it's not bad. If you ever played Tomb Raider, you'll feel like at home with all the ledges you'll miss and stuff :D The game is a bit on the expensive side if you factor in the entire cost with all the DLC's and expansions given how short it is, but if you value the artistic aspects of it and how deeply it'll anchor itself into your memory, it's kinda worth it.
I think my previous experience with similar games as Limbo and Inside was one of the reasons to buy this game. Little Nightmares is pretty and simple game, but it also gave me a few hard times - maybe because I rarely play puzzle games or maybe because of game controls, which could be better thought (I'm using an X360 controller and run + jump combination is nonsense giving the fact that LB and RB are not even mapped). Having those in mind, it took me around 4h to beat the game and additional 3 for the DLC pack (which I highly recommend buying if you want to experience the game in its entirety).
All in all, the regular price is a bit high compared to the playtime (I treat the game and 3 DLCs as a whole), but with the current discounts applied it's worth recommending.
This is by far the best game i have ever played!! It is so enjoyable and i just love the air of mystery and despair that the whole story of the Maw gives off. There are so many fun theories that are out there and i just love following the new facts that we learn along the way. The art of the game is just fantasic and is so much fun to look at and just study how these characters act and behave. The puzzle platform is really nice as well, making the puzzles challening but not so much as you are stuck for hours. Now while the story of the Six (raincoat child) is FAR BETTER than the runaway kid they are both very interesting spins off of eachother and i like how they tie together eventually. There are so many twists and turns in this game it will literally just leave you going, "What just happened... That was awesome!" Highly reccomend!
