Description
Award-winning Black Isle Studios unleashes an epic RPG like no other. In the 12th century, a supernatural catastrophe tore the fabric of reality, unleashing spirits and magic, forever changing medieval Earth. Cast into this world and besieged by spirits and power groups, you must gain allies, take up arms and find your destiny.

To the common folk, magic was something to be feared and undoubtedly the handiwork of evil demons. People across Europe sought protection from the forces of evil and therefore relinquished utter control of their lives to the Inquisition.

To this day, the Inquisition still governs most of civilized Europe, directly or indirectly. In their relentless hunt for heretical wizards and magical creatures the Inquisition inspires awe and faith among many, and is despised and feared by others.

Choose your champion – Feralkin, Sylvant, Demonkin, or Human Pureblood – and align yourself with the Knights Templar, the Inquisition, or the Wielders. Explore 16th century Europe, twisted and changed by magic, and encounter the likes of Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo.
  • An original story set in a warped alternative timeline
  • Meet historical characters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Gallileo and Shakespeare
  • One of the greatest, if often overlooked, RPGs of all time

Sad but True

This was the last game that Interplay and Black Isle made. Unfortunately it was their worst RPG ever. If it were any other company than Black Ilse saying it is the worst might mean don't play it. It isn't a bad game, it just can't hold a candle to the other games the developers made. There is a lot of potential in the game just on the fact that it uses the SPECIAL system from Fallout. Unfortunately that potential wasn't really tapped. There are some high-points in the game and it has a unique and interesting setting. Lionheart just misses on more marks than it hits. Not a bad game but far from what it could have been. Black Isle fans should pick it up for sure at the GoG price, but I imagine most of them already spent more $$ hoping for more.

Quite interesting and quite fun RPG

I don´t know many about this game and I play it first time, but I am rather positive then negative about this game after first played game. Most of this I really like-and like Baldur´s Gate series,Icewind series,Throne of Darkness and maybe some other which I don´t mentioned it has one super great advantge against all today classic hardcore RPG-I can enjoy it in co-operation with another player (try it today, no problem and it rock!)-whole story and game from begining to the credits. What today hardcore RPG like this (from old school) I can enjoy this way? I miss these type of isometric hardcore RPG which have both solo and co-op capability. But that you think I am just focus solely on one feature- So I recomend this RPG for people who love classic 2D isometric RPG, which are quite hard, but still fair. It has quite interesting system of skills (specially magic skills) and have also system of perks which you can find in Fallout. In my opinion it is very interesting mix of first two Fallout games and Baldur´s Gate series (and maybe from some other RPGs from that era). For me, story isn´t so bad and after 8 hours and 32 minute I can say this RPG is just amazing. Story, some funny/interesting moments in game and interesting system of skills (some of them) and maybe for me very important capability to play solo or in four people (just classic system of co-op for many other RPG from that era which I sorely miss today and two last resorts which left are just Action RPG or MMORPG). Only one thing which you can consider is you can (maybe) easy forget which location you already visit-if you have weaker memory, where you should go to progress in quest and maybe little dumb AI (but this are maybe problems which are quite common for most of hardcore RPGs from this era)

Action RPG with mismatched Fallout mechanics.

Lionheart is a troubled game which I have tried to get through four times in last 18 years only to get bored before i finished. The basic idea is promising enough to keep bringing me back - a medieval Fallout in alternate history magical Europe. Most of the promise is not delivered, through. The world building is very shallow, with most of the NPC interaction skills (diplomacy etc) quickly becomes useless because after leaving Act 1 game becomes a hack and slash. The world building is not that interesting, because instead of that we have bunch of "historical" characters (and groups), reduced to shallowest stereotypes of their historical selves and married to fantasy cliches. The quests set in such world are bunch of cliche Fantasy quests, until Act2 ends and thing becomes hack and slash. The NPC interaction skills are underdeveloped and lose revelance after Act1; with stealth letting you avoid enemies (losing 25% experience for killing them), the potentially rich character build becomes all about combat, (combat) magic and lockpicking. The whole thing feels as if someone took ideas left over from Fallout and Icewind Dale development and tried to make a SP Diablo clone out of them, using high school level history knowledge to proxy world building.

The first part is marvelous

That is a great game, It does not reach Baldur's gate level but it's still pretty good. The first part is marvelous, you can choose either to be a good knight defending the town. an inquisitor that is quite evil against the magicians or a magician tracked by the inquisition in the same town with really different quests. you can replay the first part with the three faction without doing the same thing twice... The problem arise when you leave the town and start the real quest, your faction doesn't really matter anymore, the story from there is on rail without any freedom at all... in summary a great first part that you can replay at least 3 times without seeing the same things and with really different mission with lot of freedom but with the rest of the story being pretty linear without much freedom and that is basically the same for all your character...

A unique roleplaying experience

"Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader" offers a unique roleplaying adventure which taking place in an excellent alternative history. You'll run in to the famous Knights Templars and the Spanish Inquistion as well as many famous historical characters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Joan of Arc and even Shakespeare. Despite having a great storyline and an incredibly amount of historical lore, the rest of the game doesn't quite hold up. It's hard to point to a specific reason as to why, most of the time it simply feels uninspired, especially the level design - the world just feels very cramped together and it becomes a bit frustrating navigating the claustrophobic maps back and forth (there is a lot of backtracking and running around). In the end this is still a GOOD game, but not as great as it could have been. If you truly love RPG's you should at least give it a try!
