Excellent, very relaxing golf simulation
Links LS 98 was one of my first games and I still remember the Christmas day when I received it from my brother. I was never particularly interested in sports games, let alone golf, but this game is something special. When I first played the demo version from a game magazine I knew that I had to get this game. The courses are exceptionally crafted and look almost photorealistic, the atmosphere is soothing and calm, the gameplay is easy to grasp, but complex in its nuances. I still have the game here, preinstalled with many of the great additional courses. While I regret the fact that these addon courses are not part of this release, the four included courses are excellent and varied and a pleasure to play. While the newer versions 2000, 2001 and 2003 were fine by themselves, they didn't really add much to the formula and with the 2004 version Access unfortunately decided to go with the 3D-hype of the day (which strangely made the game look terribly stiff and plastic like compared to the earlier versions). For me Links LS 1998 is the best golf game ever released and the pinnacle of Access Software's golf series. I wholeheartedly recommend it to everybody who is looking for a great golf simulation or simply for a peaceful, relaxing and beautiful way to spend some time.
